BX Hitch Lowering Adjustment

I am no longer able to turn my 3-Point Hitch Lowering Speed control knob. Won't budge at all. I noticed that the knob is currently in the 'Locked' position. The owners guide (p. 32) doesn't mention any special action required has to unlock it. Am I missing something, or do I have a mechanical problem?

Is the 3pt hitch all the way up?
I noticed on mine that after it kicks off, (automatically) it lowers about an inch or so. I then hold the level in the
up posistion and then crank on the knob. I think an adjustment is needed, just haven't got the time.

Hey, that is strange. I had nver used mine until I got a boxblade. I could not get it to tun so I called my dealer. He was at my door step in 20 minutes and went over and looked it over, grabbed hold and twisted. If it was going to break I wanted him to break it. Low and behold it turned. Seems it is possible to jam the thing hard over and get it stuck--do not turn it all the way over and then crank it tight. Call your dealer or go put on a glove and twist it yourself. Mine works fine now that I have been using it, just needed some exercize. J

Came home from work and tried Dave's suggestion… no go. Logged on to post, and I see TresCrows' response . Figured why not. Put the glove on, went for maximum hand force, and wa-la, it turns /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. But… It feels tighter than what it once was. Maybe after it moves for a while. (Last time I changed it was fall, when I put the rear blade on. Past weekend, with the nicer weather we are having, I ran a plow to prepare for gardening. That's when I discovered it was stuck).

Tried mine again when I got home and it's the same.
Last few inches of travel from the 3pt has to be done manually (have to hold the lever in the up position) but after that the knob turns with as much force as you'd expect. "You know your turning something!" Not a lot of force but you definately have to grab the knob. Wondering if it is another lubrication problem with your machine. I did not crawl under my BX to look what happens as the cement is just to dam cold. Another call to the dealer?

I had a problem where I couldn't get it in the TOP position when i first had the machine. More specifically, I couldn't get it into that position wit anything on the 3pt. I crawled under the BX and found that the lift mechanism for the belly mower wasn't adjusted. The knob you are turning is attached to a stepped cam mech. The Top position has a small detant to keep it from dropping the mower. All I had to do was adjust the lift mech at the right rear of the tractor to lift the mech a bit higher and it fixed it. If you can't raise it any further, then you have to lower the mower links a bit so that you can adjust the mech higher. To do this, see page 10 of the mower manual...It'll take you about 15 minutes to do the adjustment.

Charliebrn; The knob that was giving me the problems was the speed adjustment. Is it the one attached to the cam, or the 'Top' one?

Dave; Thanks for the information. Owner's manual doesn't say what the lock is for. Turns out, that it wasn't even stuck in 'lock'. (Just looked that way. Explains why I was able to use the hydraulics, even though it was stuck, only a lot slower than I desired).
On other subjects, based upon a prior thread, I have attached a picture of the BX-personality /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. "Yuppie tractor owner"… Now, where did you ever get an idea like that /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif? (Oh no… my wife's Volvo has problems, and my Pings are in the trunk… got to run).

You are correct, I misread your first post and went straight to reply. I've never had any problems with the lowering speed adjustment.

Charliebrn; No apologies are necessary. Even though it's the other knob, I was thinking that there might be a connection somehow between the two. Must admit, that I had forgot all about the mower height adjustments. I hadn't looked at the mower's Owner Manual in over a year, but went back to it when I saw your statement. Reminded me that I really should check the height and level adjustments when I reattach the deck, in a month or two. So thanks for the reminder!
