Greetings, I finally got around to dismounting the BH and trying out the 3PH for the 1st time today. It took alittle while to cipher out the proceedure but now it's as easy to do as advertised. I'm impressed in that I can dismount the BH & install the 3PH all without any tools. Pretty good engineering I rekon!

Leaving the BH in the shop presented another problem tho, once dismounted it likes to lay claim to lots of valuable territory and with it weighing in at around 600lbs, it pretty much wants to stay where it gets deposited. So, since it was too muddy to play outside much today, I decided that that BH needed to have the capability to be moved around and a hvy duty dolly would be the ticket. I packrat just about everything and just so happened to have 4 heavy duty casters w/grease fittings and some spare treated lumber laying about. After roughing out the plans, a few cuts, nuts, bolts, screws and approx an hr later, the BH became mobile. It's still a handful to move but it will move in any direction and should make remounting it alot easier.

I used 2 treated 2x10's cut 25" long to be the primary load bearing members. I screwed them together w/ 2 treated 2x4's cut 48" long. I bolted the 4 hvy duty caster wheels to the 2x10's. Due to clearance considerations, I placed the 2x4's on top rather than on the bottom. This gave me a lower clearance and also allowed me to bolt the casters to the 2x10 as opposed to the smaller 2x4's. It's holding up pretty good and is pretty handy. Fresh grease in the casters made it roll much easier too! I may fab up a dolly for the FEL also, later on down the road.

I was just talking to another lister about jus this. Perfect timing. In the picture from the forn tit looks like the BH sits very forward. Is it unstable sitting on the dolly? I wouldn't want to see it flip. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It does look front heavy, especially in the front view pic but surprisingly it is quite stable. I've tugged and pulled it all around the shop and the BH hasn't moved a bit on the dolly.

In testing, I even tried pulling it to the front and I couldn't budge it to tip over. It would take a stronger man than I /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif All it would do was move the dolly forward.

The majority of the weight rests on the dipperstick's base which is fully on the front 2x10.

It can be moved back on the dolly some more but I didn't find it necessary to after testing it out.

Volfandt before you disconnect the BH for the 1st time you're at least supposed to wear some of the paint off the bucket from using it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That's a nice looking dolly project.

Where do we order the scaled drawings and bill of materials, just like at the Yankee Workshop?????? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Great week end project.....

Looks good. I made one about 1.5 years ago (for my bx22) but was a little different. I made it as two pieces so when I install it, the BH bucket can move separate from the main platform; easier for me to install like this.

You have larger wheels which will help prevent rolled over; however, the foundation part of the BH (that connects to the main unit of the bx I would make a little longer or add an angel bracket to prevent “fall off”.

I like your BH dolly. I store my BH on the garage floor with the stabilizers down. Based on your pictures, it seems I can at least reclaim some floor space by raising the stabilizers fully? Also, I take it that having the BH elevated on a dolly does not present and mounting/dismounting problems. Interesting...I may investigate building my own. Thanks for sharing this.

This is my old page, but I did it this way. It was easier for me. Do what is easier for you.

If'n you look closely enough at the pic's I believe you'll see a flake or two of the paint wore off of one of the buckets teeth /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's been a rainy dreary winter down here in the valley. When it hasn't rained on a Sat, it's still been to muddy to play outside much. I've only accumliated about 17 hrs now since Dec! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Still had the temps been lower just a few degrees, I'm sure I'd still be digging out from all the white stuff. Y'all can go on ahead and just keep what evers left up there w/ya /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Kind of a funny aside, when I checked the hydro fluid for the 1st time, it didn't show up on the stick! With it being garage kept and no signs of any leaks anywhere on the floor I got to wondering if'n it had one of those tiny high pressure leaks you see in the manual, you know, where one is supposed to use a piece of cardboard and magnifying glass to find. Well after checking it out and being satisfied that it wasn't leaking under operation pressure. I got to thinking, which is a dangerous process in itself I know, and decided to lower the FEL & relieve all it's pressure and uncurl the BH & relieve all it's pressure too. And voila! The hydro read full! So after just about smacking myself upside the ole BHG, I found yet another lesson learned by the seat of the pants to be stored in the rapidly dwindling permanent memory banks. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've read the manual cover to cover several times but don't recall this little tidbit of info. It may be there and if'n it is, shame on me /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyone make one for the FEL?? I put one together BUT found I could not get the FEL on and off without a lot of pushing and saying some four letter words /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. The difference in height from the dolly and FEL connections was too high. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifAnyone build on that works? Mine was about 5" high.

What are the measurements of the dolly? Looks like it would be quick and easy to put together!

Thanks!

Hi: I think read volf's first couple posts. Also I would use 2/6or8 for the front to back as well as a chain between stab arms to prevent leak down. Mine kinda swayback in middle and 8+ months arms on ground. memo 2 self park where you can get to hoses with tractor!!!!

Project down road Now 2 put gator blades back on!!!

works great otherwise!!!

Maybe you were talking about FEL dolly after re-reading all (edited post)

If you use the search function for this forum (Kubota Owning and Operating), and date it with no limit on time, using the terms "BX" "bh" "backhoe" and "dolly", you should find at least four other threads in which members built BX bh dollies and posted pics. All 5 of the dollies shown in the differing threads are unique. Some of them give specs.

Where'd this come from :D
The diminsions are in the 1st post. I would recommend to go with as short a caster wheel as possible, the shorter they are the easier it is to R&R the BH.
The BH is resting on that dollie as I type.
The BH is probably dismounted at least 75% of the time and having it on a dollie is priceless as I can roll it around when ever I need the space for other projects.
GXR's linki doesn't work but his idea wa to use two dollies, one for the BH base and the other for the bucket. The way he showed how it operated makes it an outstanding dollie also.

vOLF: Agree I was just putting my 2cents in about the for/aft supports and more imp chaining arms up had no problems building just think our pressure treat is alot weaker than yours down south!! Maybe distance 2 da mill matters??? Ha ha

No problemo, use what you feel most comfortable with :D
I use a bungee cord stretched between the outriggers to keep them up.

I had to boogie and left in mid thought of my last post. In any case, the point I was trying to make about the two dollie approach of stowing the BX BH is that they can be your std store bought heavy duty versions with alittle bit of additional braceing added. GSXR1100 had a short video of how they worked together and I thought it was very neat.
Theres no set way of doing one.
Good luck
