kubota bx24
HI All,
I have not been a member very long, maybe a month. I bought a 2007 BX-24 and was happy with it until a problem showed up. I got the machine from our local Kubota dealer who told me they just did the 50 hour servie. The tractor only had 76 hours on it when bought. The tractor worked great, but I was on a little ramp getting dirt out of a hole and when I backed out the thing started sounding like something hitting a fan blade. Of course nothing was hitting and it turns out the transmission was burnt up. I had planned on checking every thing after I put 50 hours on and since the next trans service was 300 hours I felt this was okay. I had put only 46 hours when the problem popped up. I always park the tractor in a carport with a concrete floor so I woud have seen any leaks, there were none. You see the dealer, when he did the service, only put 2 gallons of trans oil in and when I checked it nothing would show on the stick so I added oil to no avail. Apparantly when I was angled down the oil moved to the point the trans could not get any which is what burned the thing up. Needless to say I was very frustrated. The dealer has the tractor back now and I am told that they have it back together and are waiting on a small part. The aggravation is that they have had the thing longer than I did. So, a month has passed and I still don't know if they are going to cover this or if I have to eat it. This is why I bought from a dealer, what does everyone think? Just trying to get other opinions.

Well, that's not very satisfying. Good luck, and hopefully the dealer will do your right. Trust, but verify.

This is another thread that reminds us all not to blindly trust the work of anyone else. Check you fluids often, and do your own service if at all possible.

From your point of view, they should have added enough fluid, and it was a like new unit, so they should fix it.

From the dealers point of view, you should have checked the fluid level, caught the fact that it was low, and added fluid.

From my point of view, one of two things happened. I don't think operating the thing for a short period of time low on fluid would have burned up the transmission. Either there was something wrong with it when you bought it, or you ran the thing while it was really low on fluid. If you ran the thing when it was that low on fluid, there should have been symptoms that would have alerted you, like a lot of noise, not moving correctly, end loader and backhoe jerky etc. When I added my end loader to my BX, it took an amazing amount of fluid to fill the lines up, when it was low, I could tell things weren't right. The problem might be if your new to tractors, or new to this tractor, you might not have known there was a problem.

HI,
Thanks for the response and you are right I have not had much experience with tractors, but I was a motorcycle mechanic for 20 years and unusual noises are noticed immediately unless they existed when first picked up which I doubt. Like I said, I bought from a dealer and they would surely have noticed that. I talked to the dealer today and was told they are waiting on some insignificant part, but they would be in touch in the next couple of days. I will see what there decision is and let everyone know.

Maybe, you can pay for the labor and get the parts for free or at the dealer's cost.

Hmm. First off I don't think you burned anything up.y you might have hurt something, but not much to ruin it. I think it might have been pre existing problem, due to extremely low hours.

I was think about that too. With such low hours, maybe the original owner dumped the tractor due to some issue only he knew about.
