I'm sure that this has been discussed before but I can not locate the thread. My BX24 has some issues with the forward and reverse pedals on the hydro drive system. Tractor usually will not stop when you remove your foot from the forward pedal. Also when you lift your heel off of the reverse pedal when backing up the machine jerks instantly to a stop

I have greased the linkage and WD 40 everything that I could find. I removed the pressurized gas shock absorber that is attached to this linkage and it will remain in whatever position that you put it in. It has some tension to it but will not fully extend or retract on its own. Is this cylinder supposed to be normally fully extended or fully retracted or is it just a dampener? The dealers don't seem to know. Am I barking up the wrong tree here or could this shock absorber be my problem. Thanks for the help.

I have bx 24 here... the damper only seems to make the return to neutral less abrupt. you need to tighten the spring compression that is under the tractor next to HST. Just follow the linkage all the way back. FYI - if you put too much compression, it will make the stop really abrupt so tighen the nut by one full turn at a time until it starts to return on its own.

Also - don't use wd40 on the hst linkage please unless it was rusted up. use lithium spray lube.also keep the spray away from the greased bar. FYI - I noticed that if I use the same grease for my mower spindles , my HST tends to be sticky and not want to return to neutral. I use the lightweight grease stuff.

Also another tip - A few years ago I was messing around the hst abrupt pedal and tried to change angles and stuff, I took the hst spindle out halfway and cleaned it good and regreased it and it felt smooth and tell you the truth - its time to do that again but i am not in the mood right now since I need the tractor alot this summer since the floor pan has to come out to make things easier.

If the pedal acts normal when the tractor is not running, Then it's not the linkage. If it were the linkage it would do it all the time, not just when it's running. I believe it has to do with how the machine's hydraulics sense where neutral is. Try adjusting the HST neutral spring (for speed control pedal, or dynamic braking) in your owners manual under periodic service. Also do You have the workshop manual? There is also an adjustment on the arm for the dampening piston that changes the feeling of the HST pedal. I would look into those 2 things first. Perhaps You may want to get the workshop and parts manuals if you don't already have them. I find them helpful.
