I have the Bota products primary fuel filter on this tractor which has been on there almost since new, about five years. I believe the filter is interchangeable with the one on an L, but I'm not sure. It has a visible filter housing in addition to being much easier to change. At any rate, the tractor has recently been dying on me which it's never done before. The first time I changed both fuel filters (even though I'd done them in the spring) which resulted in the tractor running fine....for about half an hour and then it died again. I unscrewed the primary filter housing (filter was full) and then when I tightened it back up the tractor ran fine. It's been doing this now for a few weeks; will run fine for about a half hour and then die. I open the filter, and sometimes I think I hear a vacuum escaping. Fuel runs right out of the line coming from the tank so it doesn't appear there's a blockage. When I tighten it back up, it's fine....for about a half hour, sometimes more. Any thoughts? Thanks....

Vent on the tank, ie cap?

I removed the cap the last time it quit, no difference.

Next time it is starved for fuel disconnect the fuel line after the primary and check the flow. Some sediment bowl filters have a small screen in them that can clog, or the valve could be defective.

Just to be clear, you no longer have the small filters? They normally had two small filters, one near the back and one up front.

The other usual suspects are debris in the tank getting pulled into the outlet or fuel line going to the inlet side of the 1st filter (bottom filter) and fuel hoses that are deteriorated inside.

Is the electric lift pump working properly? Hard to tell on parts breakdown but almost looks like it is under the floor pan between fuel tank and filters. I don’t remember how the filters and lift pump were on my BX1850.

The tractor still has both filters; the original small secondary is mounted up next to the engine. I believe the fuel goes through the primary, then back through the fuel pump (which is indeed mounted under the tractor), then to the secondary. All it takes to get this thing running again is to loosen the sediment bowl on the primary filter enough for fuel to start dripping out, then tighten it back up and away she goes.

The filter is cylindrical in shape and has a hole in one end. I installed it so the hole is facing up, next to the valve.

Since electric fuel pump does it pump fuel when this happens? Fuel pump should run with key in run position and tractor not running. Vacuum in filter that is before fuel pump would indicate problem in line from fuel tank to fuel pump. Vacuum in pump down stream of pump would indicate pump not getting fuel pushed into that filter.

Even though I owned a 2370 and a 2680 I am not personally familiar with this filter modification but I am trying to catch up. This Bota modification removes the primary (fuel pump) OEM filter and uses a barb or a new longer hose that attaches to the fuel inlet boost pump. Then the unfiltered fuel goes out the pump to the relocated and modified Bota filter and then on to the OEM engine filter. Does that sound right or does the fuel travel forward to the Bota filter, then back to the pump as filtered fuel and then finally goes forward again to the engine OEM filter?
