BX 23 won\'t start....

Just got my bx23 about 4 months ago. Yesterday I was clearing some brush and got off the tractor to pick up some trash. The engine cut out, as it does whenever weight is removed from the seat. But when I got back on and tried to start---nothing.... The lights that typically come on were on. It was as if some safety feature was preventing the startup. I have tested both seat sensors and they appear to be working. I have also checked the PTO sensor and the HI/LO/Neutral sensor. All appear to be working okay. I am stumped....Any suggestions on what to check next??? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: BX 23 won\'t start....

check the switch that shuts of the tractor. Also look for the wires thatrun to the switch. Check fuses.

Also check the hydro pedal. If it is not centered, you will have this problem. Rock it back and forth a few times.

Re: BX 23 won\'t start....

I forgot to mention that I have also already checked the fuses and rocked the forward/reverse pedal. The only line that I was unable to see voltage or amperage from was the line to the HI/NEUTRAL/LOW switch. The switch itself is working fine. Does anyone know how to bypass all this safety itshay(pardon my pig-latin) and simply route to the starter switch in order to start my tractor and get it moved OUT OF THE FLOODPLAIN before this week of rain begins? Many Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm not sure this will solve the problem, but did you check the Slow-blow fuse? It's located on the side of the engine right near the oil filter. It hangs there all by itself, looks like a plug-in hanging off of two wires. Mine blew and I got nothing when I turned the key. Drove me nuts for a while. My wife says I've never fully recovered. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: BX 23 won\'t start....

I had this happen to me on my BX23 when I had it for a couple of months also. I had gotten off of it and it quit on me. When I tried to restart it it would not start. I checked everything, the PTO, the 3pt, the seat switches etc. And it wouldn't start. I worked the hydro pedal back and forth a few times and checked the battery, checked all the fuses I could find, etc etc. Finally after about 2 hours I gave up. This was a Sunday so the next morning I called the dealer and told them what was going on - they said they would not be able to get out to take a look at it until a day or so later. When I got home from work that night I went back out and worked the hydro pedal back and forth a few times and tried to start the thing back up and it started just like nothing was wrong. Since then it has not happened again and that was probably about 100 hours ago. It was raining out that Monday and the best I can figure is something was sticking the hydro pedal in forward or reverse and the rain washed it out. So from that experience the hydro pedal would be my recommendation for the first place to look.

Just writing to give all repliers a HUGE !!!!THANKS!!!!!. Your support and experience meant more to me during this "crisis" than you can imagine. After another hour or so crawling around on the ground and over the tractor I finally shined my million candle spotlight waaaaaaaaaaaay up there under the metal shroud under the seat and LO and BEHOLD....there was yet another safety switch. Upon closer inspection, I saw the plug was detached. It was a BEAR to manuver my big grown-up hands inside the wheel well and under the seat shroud, but with the help of a few really long handled pliers and screwdrivers I was finally able to get it plugged back together. It was one of those few times where I KNEW the problem was fixed and I KNEW the tractor would indeed start this time. She fired right up, like there was never a problem....Again, a MILLION THANKS for all your support! Seems like I always learn 30 more things when I am trying to fix just one thing...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
