bx-23 60"mmm pto removal

Okay: due to health I have left my deck on since purchase only about 10 hrs mowing so due for grease. Anyway doing snow removal snow must have built up under deck and unhooked rear of deck. Limped it home and got book out lifted front with FEL and pulled handle to drop rest of way. Pto shaft split in middle but got deck out. Wife has tried to remove pto stub on tractor by unscrewing think the big ring. I thought it was more like an air coupler and pull/push and pull shaft off. If I get down on ground to see I won't be able to get up without FEL do to knees/hips. Any hints on getting 1/2 shaft off?
Put PTO selector to rear only so even if lever gets activated hopefully mid stays still.

Pull the coller (ring) and the shaft will slide off. Its like a quick disconnect on an air or hydralic line.

Yes, slide the outer collar towards the front of the tractor and it should actually lock into place and allow the shaft to slide off. If it won't click or lock into place just hold it and slide the shaft out. If it's been on for a while as you mentioned it may take some wiggling etc. to convince it to come apart.

Wife said good luck so after this next snow fall will get creeper out and a clear snowless spot with mallet in hand /wd-40 etc and give it a spin er whack. Hope spring comes soon ground is cold

the ring actually does lock back so that you can get it on and off, but it is a hair trigger, it will snap back pretty easy.

It definitely gets easier with practice. But it's always a dirty job.
