BX 2230 owners with 60\" MMM

I was admiring the Orange Wonder and noticed that when the MMM is fully raised the gap between the tires is not equal. The right side is much closer to the tire than the left side. Is this the same on your BX?

Kubota really cuts it close with the clearance on the tires to the deck.

My BX is the same way. The dealer told me that there is no way to increase the distance from the tires without missadjusting the deck. I tried every adjustment in the manual before calling the dealer. It's just another one of those BX design issues that you have to learn to live with. My deck even rubs on the tire under certain conditions. I have bar tires, so that makes the situation worse.

SO yours is closer on the right than the left too then? I have the bars also and basically can scrape mud off then.

Correct, the deck is closer to the tire on the right side. Another issue that I have with the deck design is that you cannot rotate the left rear antiscalp roller 90 degrees (without forcing it past the tire) to remove the deck. Either the deck needs to be 1 inch narrower or the wheelbase needs to be 1 inch longer. I suspect the 60 inch deck was designed for a bigger tractor and they "made it fit" the BX line.

I am VERY pleased with the quality of cut that I get.

Sorta wish I had the 54" too but when I went to pick up the 54" the dealer gave me the 60" since they didn't have a 54" in stock.

I would say that you got the better end of the deal then. My 60"MMM is the same way. But I still get 6" more per pass. Guess I'll live with it. I mean there are lots of imperfections with the better half and I still keep her around.

Mine are even. Are you sure one of your L shaped pins that secure the rear of the mmm is not out of its socket?

I just lower the deck a little and it misses. You might want to give that a try.

I haven't gone out to look at mine, but I think my left side is closer on the BX1800. I will have to double check that.

I have tried all positions of the deck and even experimented with the combination of rear tire position and deck height. There is one combination that will alow me to rotate the antiscalp with the minimum interference but it is a pain to get it aligned (tire tread position and deck heigth). I usually just force the deck forward with a pry bar until the wheel will rotate. If I have the FEL on, I lift the tractor and that helps. The only resolution is to pull the deck forward via the parallel linkage adjustment. But then the front of the mower is higher than the back. That's what the dealers do; and hope that you don't notice that the front-back level is out of adjustmet. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I stopped at the dealer last week to pick up an oil filter and there was a guy complaining to the service manager about the same problem.

On the positive side, if you have the deck aligned to spec and have the tires inflated to the correct pressure you will get an excellent cut. Even on hilly property with lots of anlguations like I have. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have the same clearance issues Scrounger mentioned with different gaps at the tires and the hard to spin anti scalp wheel, but when lowered everything is in spec. I spin the anti scalp wheel with a large adjustable wrench attached right behind the wheel where there is a square section on the upright rod. This pushes the plastic wheel into the tire enough to make the pin of which I'd like to find a safe substitute for. The " key fob " type pin retainer rings suck, theyr'e a pain in the middle finger. I'd like to loose them on the upper 3 piont arm attach pins also.

Checked the pins and they are all fine. When the deck is lowered it looks to be all even, I'll have to look at the manual and take some measurements.

Just knocked off the back 40 came in and saw this thread then went back out and checked mine out. Seems the distance is pretty close to equal when raised. I have bars and I figure I've got about 1/2" clearance on both sides.
When I originally set the MMM up, to get it be be level when lowered the right side has the proverbial hair clearance between the lift bar and stop whilst theres approx 1/2" clearance on the left. I also had to crank the adj nuts on the front brkt approx 12 turns to get the front just slightly lower than the rear of the MMM.
As for removing the pin inoder to turn the left rear anti-scalp wheel for side to side movement, I lower the MMM just enough for the pin to slide out which also gives enough clearance to easily spin the anti-scalp wheel. The magic spot is just before the wheel makes contact with the ground. It also helps to have the pin line up with the gap between the bars.
