I am about to purchase a BX2200 with a 60" MMM, and a FEL. Should I also purchase a Grill Guard? What purpose does the grill guard serve and how much do they typically cost?

Thanks in advance

jtb,

I don't know how much the grill guards cost. Whether you need one or not depends upon what kind of work that you are doing with the loader. I have one on my B2150 and there are two occasions that it comes in handy:

(1) When I am carrying a full load of rocks (or dirt with big rocks in it) and some rocks fall off the driver side of the bucket. In this instance the rock hits the grill guard and not the hood.

(2) When I am trying to dump a load into a truck. Since my loader's bucket doesn't reach out too far I have to get within an inch or two of the side of the truck to make the bucket dump near the middle of the truck. Out of 20 or 30 bucket dumps I usually get too close on at least one or two approaches.

I will admit that the above situations don't happen very often, but there has been at least one occurance for each of the above where my hood has been saved by the grill guard. Even if you don't plan to do either of the above, I would suggest that you consider it anyways since compact tractor drivers almost always find new ways to use their tractor to make life easier.

Bottom Line: It is a cost-vs-usage problem. I would recommend one if the cost is not prohibitive.

I priced a front guard for around 140 bucks at local dealer. I can find it cheaper elsewhere, but the time I paid freight I would be money ahead ! The guard is also nice to run over small brush and sapplings too!/w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

I think that the grill guard will be part of the FEL package; that's how it was on by B7500 - I did not
purchase it separately.

So did I but it is definitely not included! I have to say though, in the 75 or so hrs I have used the BX, I haven't had the need for one.

As my wife always says, Why did you buy it after you took out the grill?
At the time she was referring to my Toyota Landcruiser as I replaced the grill and rad and added the bush guard.

Just before you sign on the dotted line for your new BX, look the dealer in the eye and say "of course a grill guard is included when I buy the FEL." If he stammers, set the pen down and say "I really think that this is an essential component and should be included." Be prepared to leave if he balks you can always go back the next day and say you have reconsidered.
