Jimmy:

It is my understanding that the King Kutter XB line was made for subcompact tractors. I don't haver the rotary mower, but I did purchase the King Kutter XB box blade and my BX1850 had no trouble handling it. I hope you enjoy your BX1850 as much as I do mine.

Looking at rotary cutters also for my BX. No farm stores in my area stocks the XB. Everyone wants to sell me a standard 4 ft. cutter. They say this is what they sell for the subcompacts. This XB model in your post comes in a 40 inch also. They always want an extra $200.00 for the smaller 40 in. because they must order it. Are XB's available in your area? What is price range? My BX2230 book shows a 42 in for this tractor. Thanks, Lon

I did look on Kubotas website and looked at compatable rear finish mowers that they make and they are in the 450# range and are compatible with all BX series tractors......

Yes, they are made here in Alabama. I was quoted 600.00 for the 48" XB. I was unaware about the 42". I didn't see it on their website.....I believe this cutter will work fine with what I am doing....I was just wondering if anybody else had a similar setup....The dealer I am getting mine from has the cheapest prices around.

I just put that very same mower on my bx2350 last week. it works like a charm. I chose the xb over the regular (yellow) mower for a couple reasons.

First, the 3pt hitch points on the regular were pretty high and I wasn't sure I would be able to raise it off the ground much when transporting.

Second, the XB model has a closed back and a rubber guard on the front. Since I am mowing around structures and animals, I figured the enclosed blades would reduce UFO's. As I understand it, you can put chain guards on the regular mower - Northern Tools has the kit for $120 or so.

Third, I like the dual guage wheels on the XB compared to the single wheel on the regular model. As it turns out, I am able to use those wheels on my boxblade as well.

If you decide to go this route, let me know and I'll give you some suggestions on assembly and setup.

Bryan

EDIT: BTW, $600 is a good price. Mine was $650 on sale.

I hope to pick mine up on Sunday or Monday maybe tomorrow....Either way, I think my 1850 will handle it fine.

Thanks!

I used that exact mower (gladly loaned to me by another Kubota owner) for my BX2350, and it also handled it well. I was cutting a 4 foot stand of timothy and alfalfa. The heaviest spots had to be taken slowly... it actually ate things like trees better, as it didn't then choke on the "mouthful" that all that grass created.

The only warning I have is that you need to be careful backing into standing vegetation. When you pull foward, you may not notice when the grass pulls out the pins holding the guide wheels on, causing you to drop the wheel(s). My buddy warned me, and sure enough, it happened to me.

I also found (in the neighbor's field) a 6" steel sewer pipe sticking out of the ground. The cement lid caused a small ding in the housing of the cutter, and the pipe was almost cut clean through... but not a nick on the blade! It sure did rattle the fillings out of my teeth while I reached for the PTO lever though.

My buddy just laughed when I told him that instead of returning his mower, I was going to replace it with a brand new one. (We both live by the rule that we don't borrow what we can't afford to buy.) He didn't take me up on my offer, though I wish he would've... it was such an easy excuse for the wife!

I have the 48" xb on my 1850 and it works great. That is a good price I payed $700 for mine. I looked at both but I liked the xb series better for the smaller tractors.

I have that exact one n my 23. I find the small wheels don't caster well when changing direction. I plan to put more caster in them but haven't gotten around to it yet. Other than that it's very well built. I was surprized at how heavy built it is for a subcompact unit. One thing to note, the 3ph pins are very close to the deck so they may limit quick hitch compatibility.

Jimmy,

I had the standard 4' yellow KK rough cutter on my BX2200. I had to drill two holes in the frame and installed two lower pins turned inwards. With this setup, it fit the BX very nicely and lifted quite high.
