Recently my BX stalled and almost died while mowing going up a moderate slope. Also happened without the mower engaged. Thought it might be low fuel level. I filled the tank and had the same problem today. I've mowed this area the same way for two years without any problems and have plenty of power until the engine begins to stumble. Once I change the attitude the engine picks up and runs fine and it doesn't do this consistently. Anyone experienced a similar problem? Any ideas. Thanks

Do you have it in high gear???? Maybe fuel filter(s)??? Seems to be happing only when you apply a load like going up a hill. Try using your back blade and apply a load and see if it happing’s under that situation.

Hey,
Had a similar problem on my Craftsman lawn tractor - not comparing to your 'bota - but the circumstances are very similar. Go up a slight hill and it would cough, sometimes die. Has been a persistent problem for a while but was getting worse.

Noticed during one of the these recent episodes that the fuel filter was empty, but, there was tank in the gas. AHAH - I have a clog from the tank to the filter. Got it in the garage and when I went to move the fuel line to remove the tank, some fuel flowed into the filter - it's one of the see through in-line "cone" filters. After more investigation I noticed that the fuel line dropped straight down out of the bottom of the tank, made a bend then went back up through an opening in the frame. On the other side of the frame, the fuel line went almost straight out to the filter. I pulled the excess line so there was not a bend and the filter was the lowest point in the fuel line - no more issues since.

Appears that the fuel feed is gravity to the filter and the filter was a little higher than the lowest point in the line. Going uphill stopped the flow.

Hope this helps and you can get it fixed soon.

Eddie

My BX23 started to show similar symptoms this spring when going uphill - sudden loss of power and sputtering. All I did was change the 2 fuel filters and everything has been fine since then. I had almost 200 hours on it at the time of the change and both filters had quite a bit of crud inside. It won't cost you much except a little bit of time to find out.

I'm betting on the fuel filter/line; I just remembered that the tractor had been sitting for while before mowing season. It did studder in low range and the slope is really nothing that has strained it in the least before. thanks to everyone for good advise.
