I have attempted to buy a part for my JD post hole digger. There are, according to my dealer, 4 dealers in the US that have this part. I ordered the part 14 days ago through my dealer, and have called him three times to check on the status. Their response is 'the dealer that has the part has not shipped the part.' I'm told they can ship the part to JD, then JD can ship to my dealer. I was then told for a $20.00 shipping charge one of the dealers would ship direct to my dealer. Part cost $3.00, shipping $20.00 that sucks. What gives? Why won't the dealer who has the part ship to JD when that shipping charge is waived(or so I'm told). Do dealers make money on shipping?

Gonna complain to JD Headquarters.

The dealers probably lose money on the shipping, by the time they do the paperwork and get the item on the Deere truck going back to Deere depot, then on another Deere truck going to your area Deere depot, and from there on a Deere truck going to your dealer. Shipping direct would mean not using the Deere trucking system and using UPS or FedEx instead. They charge for shipping, I've learned :).

I'd be happy that the part still exists and at some point in time, I'd have it. :D
But that may just be me.

At my dealer yesterday, and the summer harvesting season is going great guns. This means the dealer's mechanics and parts guys are working extra hours to keep up. They would like to have more of that load in the winter months but it doesn't work that way with the seasons we have.

What part is it?

Most of the time it is a five dollar part, twelve dollars for shipping, and five hundred to install it. Be thankful you can install it yourself in place of ninety five dollar an hour service fees. I know it sounds expensive but shipping is getting more expensive as time goes on. Sometimes you just have to grin and bear it.
