im thinking of buying a subcompact tractor...18 or 22 hp..all wheel drive...belly mower, front end loader Im looking at Kubot and Massey Ferg..... i kinda like the Massey better so far...any advice would be greatly appreciated...

I just went through the Compact Tractor purchase process. Man, there are lots of options out there. I looked at and drove them all LS, TYM, Mahindra, Kubota, and John Deere. I ended up with a new 2013 3032E John Deere. The Deere ended up being the best deal out there and the dealer network is absolutely the best. 0% financing was nice too. Never thought I would end up with the JD but I'm glad I did. I got the tractor, loader, brush hog and blade for under $19k. The Tier 4 emissions are being mandated now for lower emissions so if you can find one prior to that it will save you a lot of money and maintenance costs. Good luck and look at them all.
thanks very much... i appreciate that info. so far the JD's have been more expensive than the rest but, as my brother says..you get what you pay for...most of the time. I have no JD dealer near me so that was a serious consideration.... good luck and thanks again

The tier 4 emissions are for tractors over 25 HP.

I bought a 2012 JD 1026R SCUT in May this year. As many members will tell you, JD prices are routinely high. I ended up with Deere because I felt the operator station & controls were significantly easier to use & more refined than the others. This is a newer JD tractor - they took the Yanmar tractor & made improvements to it. You won't find this difference on some of Deere's older tractor models.
It's kind of a one-upmanship between manufacturers, just like with cars. Anyway, I encourage you to test drive as many as you can before deciding. There's no substitute for trying them out in person. Even before the financial dickering starts.
btw, EPA Tier 4 engine emissions began in 2013 for <25 hp diesel engines as well. So all new tractors from this point forward will have these engines. Deere's equivalent tractor is Model 1025R. I believe the dealer told me it has an exhaust particulate filter on it, and retarded fuel injection timing.

I am 70 miles north of the Tug Hill,we don't get any where the snow they do.I worked in central NY for ten years and seen it first hand.You can't believe it can snow that much.One storm I remember they got 54 inches in 24 hours.This year they got about five ft. over a couple days.
i used to go up to Harrisville NY to the Viking snowplow factory and pick up plows for a dealer...i got caught in one of those storms once... drove 20 miles without seeing a thing except the tailights of a tractor trailer...wherever he went , i went. Nice country up there tho..Lowville, Boonville, Adams...love it in the summer. Thanks
