Living in Australia and I have just spent a month looking at compact utility tractors (45-50hp) and reading the forums.

Here is a list of just some of the brands I have come across and where their components have been sourced.

A Massey Ferguson made in India (dealer said they have also been made in Spain and France)

A Compact Case made in Korea

A Utility Case with a Turkish Transmission

A Korean TYM with a Perkins engine

A Korean TYM with a Kubota Engine

A Kubota with a Daedong transmission

John Deere compact from Yanmar Japan (plant now in China)

A Mahindra with Daedong engine

A Montana from LS Korea

Countless number of Chinese tractors with all sorts of brand names and, I am advised, variable quality and support.

Imported Grey Market refurbished Kubotas (still not banned in Australia)

Small Kubotas assembled in USA

Despite the enormous range of compact/utility tractors on the market ( and $ parity), you still pay about 40% more than in the USA for a good new tractor.

Postings on this site have been of great help in wading through a not so transparent tractor market.

A Kubota with a Daedong transmission

That would have been a 25 year old tractor, I think, from a time in the 1980's when Kubota and Daedong had a brief joint venture flirtation. Since then Daedong has become a serious direct competitor, and I don't think there has been any more cross-breeding.

I'm probably gonna get flamed by someone for this.............but I'm trying to help you, and no one else.

I would stay away from Case, because they have changed hands like 30,000 times in the past 5 years(over-exageration), but you get the point.

TYM..........Iffy..........Perkins engine good, don't know driveline maker.

TYM.......iffy...........Kubota engine good, don't know driveline maker.

Kubota with Daedong tranny.......Daedong good...........engine unknown.

John Deere with Yanmar.............they seperated(parts availabilty?)

Mahindra, with Daedong engine...........driveline unknown.

Montana................NO

Chinese.............NO

I would go with the Massey(from your list)..............after careful inspection.............only because I haven't heard anyrhing bad about them.(except certain 1500 series)

Model numbers would be a big help..............we are kinda running blind here.

It is also my understanding that as of 2011.................China is making Perkins engines...........Beat me with a club, and I might let ya give it to me.

And I hope that my previous sentence is forwarded to Massey.................or whomever owns Perkis Diesel!

McCormick used to decal small LS compacts but is now dropping them, I understand. Meanwhile, New Holland is buying some LS medium sized cuts from LS. Montana is gone, but LS, who provided many of the tractors for Montana is now here in the US with their own name, with the compacts having Mitsubishi engines.

BobCat and Kioti sell sister Daedong tractors, Massey Ferguson still channels Iseki compacts under their name. Mahindra uses(d) some LS, some Mitsubishi, some their own.

Is Branson still the only outlet for the Korean tractor maker Kujke?

Deere seems to be moving away from its long relationship with Yanmar at the same time Yanmar is in MTD selling tractors with the Cub Cadet label.

Yup, it's an interesting world, all right.

So with Deere moving away from Yanmar, who is replacing Yanmar for Deere.??....China.?? Company name.??

I am curious, that's all.

Deere is reported to be doing their own work, with so much off shore production facility, why not?

Can you please tell us what LS tractor is used by Mahindra? I don't know of one. You may be thinking of the 5010 model that is TYM built. TYM had built other models for them in the past, but only the 5010 at this time.

Just wondering

I was under the impression that the Kubota/ Daedoug (Kioti here in the states) joint effort was some 1980's models. Maybe it's different down under but I seriously doubt that the two companies make anything together now.

One reason I ended up buying my Kubota was that they were made, and sold by Kubota themselves. The other brands I was comparing with either were subcontracted to another manufacturer to be made, another brand tractor simply rebadged, or substantial components were out-sourced. I felt these "relationships" would change over time.
I'm not saying this makes Kubota tractors better. I'm just saying *I* had more confidence in a vertical manufacturer. I also felt parts availability would be strong for many years.

Can you explain your comment about Case? Unless I missed something Case bought International back in the 80's (25-30 years ago) and ran that company as Case-IH till about 8 years ago (give or take a couple years) when New Holland bought the entire company and has merged the lines keeping some Case-IH lines and some New Holland lines while running the entire company under the CNH name but with two brands, Case-IH and New Holland. I am not flaming you just trying to understand where you thought they have been sold off 30k times in the last 5 years (yes, it is an extreme over exageration since they have not been sold off at all in the last 5 years that I know of).
