There's dealer in Pine Bluff, AR who has a 165 on ebay. It says it has multipower and shifts good. Tractortips.com indicates that multipower was standard on the 165. I've been lead to believe that the multipower was prone to trouble and most have been replaced with non-multipower trans. Was multipower standard and do you think they are reliable?

The 400 series is not much different that the 100 series (135, 165, 175 etc) except they have some updates. They are very good reliable tractors, but they just don't have all the glitz that some models have.

Multipower wasn't standard, but a goodly amount of the 135/150/165/175/180 series had it. When it worked, it was better than any hi-lo on the market. (Yopu needed to be aware of the free-wheeling down hills in low range though) It had a tendency for trouble though. Hydraulic issues. (A seperate pump that had problems) seals that failed, linkage that was constant trouble. Get one in good shape and TAKE GOOD CARE of it, and you'' have a friend for life.

The "base" tranny was the 6-speed (3X2 forward) Optional was an 8-speed (4X2 forward) Multi-power was available only on 6-speed models (giving 12 forward gears)

Great tractors! Very simple, very reliable engine (Perkins diesel) Gassers slightly harder to get SOME parts for. (Some of the 4-cylinder gas engine parts were common to the diesel)
