A little while back I was mounting the jacto 401 cannon sprayer to see how it would ride on the back of the xr3140. My initial measurements indicated one lever for the cannon adjustments would be much to close to the rear window, and it was after getting the sprayer on the tractor. A little remanufacturing of the lever and that was that.
Then I was playing with the pto shaft to check it for the right length. It was good length-wise but when I tried to turn the pto from the tractor to line the spines up, I could not budge it. The sprayer has far to much resistance to turn by hand also.
Is this how these electric over hydraulic operated pto are? or am i missing something...This is the first tractor I have owned the pto does not spin freely when lining up the splines .

This is more or less how these electric over hydraulic PTO work.

It uses a clutch pack. Once you flip the switch On, the spool on the solenoid valve divert the fluid and engage the clutch pack.

This clutch pack has a spring actuated brake. Once you turn the PTO off, the spring applies the brake.

Some tractors will have a PTO lever to select between multiple PTO speeds, or between mid and rear PTO or simple Neutral or 540.

I don't know if this applies on your LS tractor but check if you have this lever on your tractor and switch it to Neutral if possible. It will let the shaft spin freely. Usually located on the left side of the seat, somewhere around the Range lever.

Or try to spin with tractor turned off.

If fluid applied brake, no fluid pressure from pump, no brake.

The brake is spring applied.

if you add an overrunning clutch/coupler to the mix, you can easily spin splines to line it up

Must have a spring brake like you describe ptsg, there is no turning the shaft by hand.
That kinda sucks. I'll look at the service manual and see if there is something to 'remedy' that...

Over-run clutch, excellent idea.

In short yes. The XR series has no neutral position so it's not going to spin by hand. The MT3 series fixed that by adding a neutral lever.

Pry bar through the pto shaft yoke, carefully.

Yep jethro, after I get the tool box figgered out and mounted thats gunna be a permanent tool in it... And maybe an overrun clutch also

Pry bar cheaper though:D

I have always just turned the pto shaft from the attachment.

When this happens to me, I try to 'bump' the PTO by turning it on and off quickly. Sometimes I get lucky.
This happens when I hook up to the rototiller, since the tines are on the ground. If it doesnt line up after a bump or two, then I pick up the implement and see if I can rotate it. This wont work for your situation.

The prybar might be your salvation.

Question about the pump though, does it have a bleed or anything that you can use to take the pressure off the pump/pto shaft that would allow you to spin it easier?

All tractors with this elec. over hyd. Pto should all have a 'neutral'. I need to try your 'quick bump' trick avenger..... The jacto cannon sprayer does not have a pressure relieve on the pump. I did not try the pry bar on the sprayer shaft yet. Most of that resistance comes from a rather large impeller fan that creates the hurricane force wind for the sprayer.
When I was initially mounting it on the tractor the control lever was my main concern and most of the evening time I had went into that... Which took a longer trial and error period than I anticipated:p

I park my tiller on two pieces of 6x6 treated post left over from the shop lean-too build. There about 2 foot in length and placed under the skid shoes of the 60 inch kk tiller. It still wants to rock forward and I still have to use the tillers 'kick stand' but it sure is nice for mounting, cleaning and keeping it off of the ground.
