Busted Hyd. Filter 1533

Well, it finally happened...We've used the tractor for abot 70 hours now with no hiccups whatsoever. Last weekend, pops was bushhogging in some thinned pines and a hydraulic line popped out the quick disconnect. Fixed it fairly quickly after realizing we needed to relieve the pressure from the lines.

This weekend, pops (who said he'd start taking it easy) was bushhogging again and running over some downed pines (semi-rotten for the most part) and must have hit a limb the right way as it popped up and ripped the filter under the right footstep off. Problem is the filter is ripped off, but can't get it off now. Thinking bracket may be busted as well...along with all the fluid that drained out.

Anyone ever done something like this? Is it fairly common? Starting to do a little research and finding out this may not be as cheap a fix as we were thinking. Tractor is in the woods at our property.

Is it safe to drive it 150 feet to where we can get it on a trailer? We have the Synchro Shuttle trans...

I have a 1532 and have noticed hydraulic filter in a bad spot for '' off road '' clearance . If it were mine I wouldn't take a chance on driving it w/o hydraulic oil . I wish you good luck with this problem .

May have local MF dealer come pick it up...our current goal is to get the FEL raised up so we can drag it out. Any ideas how to do that? We're thinking jack it up and then use the grill guard (Steel) to tie a rope to to keep it off ground.

I sure would not drive it. You chance having a bad pump if you do.
When you get the loader up, put a section of about 1.5" angle iron over the exposed part of a cylinder.

Didn't drive it...tractor is at dealer now. The male threaded piece the filter screws on to was snapped (aluminum from what I can tell) so need to replace that as well as filter and fluids. While under the tractor, noticed a hydraulic line (metal) that was smacked with something...why don't they put skid plates on these as a standard item?

I am guessing this is why The suction filter is in the trans, and the spin on is now above the front axle on the 1600 series PS tractors.

That sucks, hope you get it fixed ip for a reasonable price.

We took it to the Deere dealer (where our MF was originally sold when they were MF dealer) and they used HyGard. I'm assuming that is OK with the SynchroShuttle transmission?

As long as it meets or exceeds specs, you should be fine.

I've had that same thing almost happen to me. Mine just got a dent in it. Also snatched one of the loader hoses out. Hope some of you ingenious builders can come up with a good skid plate design. It's certanily needed.

I wish I could weld

I'm somewhat thinking of finding some fairly stout wire fencing with smaller mesh to keep the large limbs out and bending it/curling ends into eyelets for screws to attach to. I'd then stick carriage bolts or something similar through the top/driver platform going down, run my self-curled eyelet through then washer/nut.

I just haven't really messed with it much.
