Bush hog - Welding repairs cost estimate ?

I have a bush hog brand 5 foot squealer and the top of the deck has two splits in it toward the front about 2 inches long on each one ...I have no idea how that happened and the skid plates on the bottom front edge on each side need to be replaced with some 1/4 inch steel , each about 3 in. wide by 7 in. long...Anyone have a guess what a welder will charge ...I am going to take in one day this week so I am just looking for a range...like how much would be too much idea..

I bought this bush hog new 8 yrs. ago and otherwise it is fine. Thanks

I had something similar happen to my bush hog. I repaired it myself with some flat iron, some C-clamps and my welder. It took about 45 minutes, and should be strong enough to last 10+ years.

Take in to consideration your time transporting the hog to a welder, getting it back, and the cost. I imagine the welder will charge about $75.

Why don't you buy a stick or mig welder and do it yourself? The cost of a new or used welder will be 2-5x the cost of the repair if the welder did it. The next time something breaks, you can repair it yourself and save the money.

I got a 3 different welders in the last few years, then got an O/A setup. You'll find that you can do alot of things with these metalworking tools.

sounds like a great excuse to buy a 250$ ac 240v 225a buzz box ,box of rod and a helmet and gloves!

I bought my welder when my 15' batwing mower lost a wing hinge... buying a welder ( ac buzzbox ), plus the gloves, helmet, welding jacket, alot of different rod, chipping hammer, wire brush, clamps soapstone and a few other goodies were still a few bucks cheaper than the reapir estimate for a mobile welder to come out and fix it.
