I recently purchased a 2001 Massey Ferguson 1233. I simply can't get the lift arms to open wide enough to accecpt my Bush Hog SQ142. The Bush Hog requires an opening in the lift arms of 33'' but my lift arms will only open 31''. I know the solution is most likely as simply as "seeing the forest for the trees", or atleast that's what I'm hoping, but does anyone know the solution to this problem?

Reverse the pins, put the nut on the out-side,pin the inside.

Tried that...the lift arms need to come in to less that 18", but they want come in past 20"

Have you tried reversing just one pin? You would then have a bit of a offset but that might not be a issue for what you want to do.

Can you take a picture of the rear of the tractor while backed up to the mower ready to attach? Sound like a sway adjustment issue?? Dealt with this on a compact John Deere one time. Very frustrating until "the light came on".

I faced a similar problem when hooking up my mower. Not that I could not open my lift arms wide enough, but rather it was difficult to adjust the sway enough to get it wide enough with a lot of adjusting and force to open them up.

It was enough of a fight that I bought some quick attach adapaters, similar to the Pat's Easy Change style so I no longer had to go wider than the pins to attach. Now I just slide under the pins and lift up to connect.

What is preventing the arms from opening farther apart?
are they hitting the tires? or perhaps just need to be adjusted the turnbuckles, do you have this kind of setup?

Adjust Implement Side-to-Side Sway

NOTE: Check implement operator's manual for adjusting sway links. When sway links have been properly adjusted, side sway of implement is controlled by position of chains.

Use left and right sway links (H) to adjust 3-point hitch implement side-to-side sway:

· Remove locking pin (I).

· Rotate turnbuckle to lengthen or shorten.

· Install locking pin.

I still have a good bit of play in the sway links on both sides. The problem seems to be at the top. It binds and will not allow me to open the lift arms quite far enough. I'll try to post some pics Tueday...working tomorrow. Thanks!

With a little more adjusting, I finally have gotten the lift arms to open enough to accept the Bush Hog! Thanks for your comments and advise!:)
