I've just inherited about 40 acres of field mowing to do. I have a kubota l3710 and a 5' bush hog but mowing that much acreage I'd be forever and a day. I'd like to get a larger mower, but I am not sure what size the tractor could handle. I believe it has about 28 hp at the pto. Any suggestions would help. The fields have no saplings to contend with, but the spring rains have made to grass /hay very thick. I have a 7' finish mower and was thinking about raseing it to 6 to 8 inches but I'm not sure. Suggestion please. Thank you.

It has been my experiance that horsepower is what ultimatly decides how fast you can get a area mowed. A 6 foot bushhog will mean that with just 32 pto hp you'll have to slow down. You can only cut so much with 32 pto HP no matter how wide your mower is. If the field is smooth I would raise your 5 footer to cut about 8 inches high, sharpen the blades and take off and see how fast it will get mown. It might not take as long as you think it will.
