Looking at getting a 72 inch rotaty cutter for my NH TC40DA. The suggested size for my tractor is 6 feet. My old 5 foot Ford 908 cutter is done. Any ideas on which one is a better unit. The Woods is 20% cheaper.

Thanks

I am shocked the Woods is 20% cheaper. I have found the opposite to be true in my neck of the Woods (Southest LA and Southern MS.)

For what it's worth the Woods BB72 has a 1.5" cutting capacity whereas the Bush Hog is only 1".

I have a Woods medium duty BB720 and it's built like a tank and weighs 1140 pounds. It's been a flawless performer so far. I have also cut with a Bush Hog 6 foot squealer model and had the same results.

Thanks for the replies. Been on Woods and Bush Hogs web sites and noticed the Woods is a little heavier guage metal. Going shopping tomorrow.

Even though I have all Bush Hogs myself, for 20% less I'd buy Woods. Everything I have owned made by Woods worked fine or they fixed it.

When you say "Woods" is 20% cheaper, what models are you comparing? The BrushBull line is the one for serious duty. The other lines, while good, are not as heavy duty (or heavy).

In some ways the Woods Vs Bushog is like Ford Vs Chevy. Both are good and both have a loyal following. I bought the Woods Brushbull as the blade retention system they use is, IMO, superior and the unit seemed to be built more like a tank. Zero issues, 3-4 sets of blades, hundreds of hours, miles and miles of trail, thousands and thousands of rocks, stumps and even logging winch cables. Still runs like a top.

I own one of each. (Woods BB840 - Bush Hog 286) All things being EQUAL, I'd buy another Bush Hog. Everyone raves about Woods and their easy to remove blades. In 35 years of owning every sort of mower I can imagine, I've only removed blades ONCE. ( I sharpen blades in place) So that isn't a high priority in my book. My most recent Woods (the BB840) has paint issues. (It's peeling off in sheets) It has a tendency to leave grass/weeds standing in tire tracks. The Bush Hog, mounted on same tractor, cuts cleaner. (No logical explaination. Don't think it's a problem common to ALL Woods mowers, but who knows?) Another dislike I have for the Woods, it seems to blow chaff out from under the front end more than any mower I've ever used. (BOTH have nearly IDENTICAL saftey chain guards) In a few hours of mowing, I'm covered with dust and grass clippings. The Bush Hog doesn't throw any clipping out from the front that I've noticed.

Both run almost vibration free. Both are top quality designs. (Agian, my PERSONAL choice being the Bush Hog) Being a 6' and 7' models, there isn't a good direct comparison, but in general, I prefer the Bush Hog as I mentioned. (Only real commonality, both are MEDIUM DUTY models from their respective maker)

When I bought the Bush Hog, (Jan. of this year) I priced both brands. The Bush Hog was $260 CHEAPER. When I bought the 7',(Woods) in June of '04, it was $100 cheaper than Bush Hog 7'er at that time. All depends on when dealer bought their stock of mowers from manufacturer.

Bottom line, you won't go too far wrong with EITHER brand.

Since Woods makes John Deere's Frontier line of attachments, I would probably go with Woods since their rotary cutters work with quick-hitches.

My Bush Hog 5' RazorBack required me to make a quick hitch adapter since BH hasn't come up with an adapter kit for the cutters. The dealer tells me that customers want BH to make quick hitch adapter kits; but BH doesn't seem interested in doing so.

My BH cuts fine; but I'd by the Woods/Frontier for the factory designed quick hitch capability.
