Evening,
I have a BH16 that has a standard hitch configuration. I recently purchased a Quick hitch. I noticed in the manual that there is two different configurations for the standard hitch and the quick hitch.
Will the standard hitch configuration work with the quick hitch or will I have to replace the standard hitch components with the quick hitch components? Dealer says the standard hitch will work.
Any help would be appreciated.

David

I ordered my Bush Hog with the quick hitch.

The top link on mine is not fixed and is in a couple of sections that pivot and slip. If the tail comes up like in the bottom of a hill grade, the mower top link pivots to prevent crushing your tractors top link that's fixed.

Depending on your configuration, you may be able to set it up so it pivots, but just a stock quick hitch and non quick hitch compatible Bush Hog is going to result in damage.

The quick hitch option on that mower is made for you to easily hook up to the mower with your QH.

With the standard hitch, it uses a swinging toplink bracket, that once unhooked, the swinging bracket/clevis, drops down. I am sure you could use the QH with it, but may be more difficult to hook up and swing that bracket up and get a pin through it and the hook on your QH.

And you dont want to do without that swinging toplink clevis, cause without it, any uneven terrain and you will bend up what they are calling the yoke straps.

The quick hitch option that bushhog has, gets rid of the swinging clevis, and replaces the yoke straps with ones that allow the movement there instead. Same end result, just a different method to allow the tailwheel some free range of travel.

I dont even know why they still offer the standard hitch. Their quick hitch option will work just fine if the tractor dont have a QH. But not too well the other way around. They probably did it to save $10 on MFG.

yea, I thought so. My dealer says it will work (like you said and it probably will to a certain extent) but I don't want to chance bending anything on the top part (especially my new hydraulic top link or the new bush hog) so I have ordered the parts to swap out the standard hitch to the quick hitch just to be sure
