Located a well preserved grain drill buried under several feet of olde straw in my barn. Wondered if anyone has an idea on age.Its seems to be an international harvester product best guess is early 1900s? Once we dug it out carried it to a dry area with Boomer 4060. New loaded R4s on it replaced the ag tires it came with, much more stable.

One just like it at the Farm Science Review antique farm equipment museum said 1920-1925 era. My uncle had one just like it so I remember the years.

Nice find.

Looks like all the equipment used in our Amish community, you con get a good price for it if you have any Amish around.

That's a funny statement to say "carrying it to safety" when it has obviously been in a very safe place all these years.;):D That's a great looking drill and will make a beautiful display/museum piece.

I really would like to hear the story of how it happened to be "hidden" in a barn you own. Did you just recently purchase a farm with an unexplored old barn on it?

Purchased farm 3 years ago, its an olde very large bank style barn built into hillside, circa 1888, upper loft and lower stalls were full of junk,It was dumping ground for many years." Lots good stuff" .The barn is now on last legs , some timbers are good,I hope to salvage some wood but stone foundation is dead and its days are numbered before we have a big collapse. In the upper loft area olde dusty, moldy straw ,very dusty 4-6 feet deep in places. We have located old work sleds, fanning mills, numerous olde wood spoked vehicle wheels.,2 furrow horse drawn plow, horse drawn scuffler, truck parts, tractor tires, etc, The top of the seed drill wheels and part of one end of box were visible in one end of barn which is overtop of a series of stalls, over about a 10-12 foot drop.Because of its placement never ventured over to that end for fear of falling thru. There were already several big holes.First had to excavate straw by hand then realized exactly what we had, several of the neighbours lads helped me dig it out( masks on) and we pulled it out with a series of ropes and old pulleys. We used old boards and sheet metal to create a road across the straw once we dug it out.Still lots to dig when time permits. The olde barn kept everything in good shape and mostly dry but if it collapses getting stuff out will be a little more trouble. Parts of it fell thru last winter already.Whatever we find in it we have just moved stuff up to a dry drive shed we have so we can work on it and hopefully preserve it.

WE knew some type of equipment was there but it had to be safely excavated then extracted, located olde fanning mills, wooden spoked wheels and axles, heavy sleds, old training buggy, scufflers, 2 bladed plow, bale forks, honey centrifuge ( a barrel with nice cast gears and crank system). etc Olde barn is on last legs so trying to safely extract all usable stuff before it goes down.I will post some more pictures as I dig.

Nice find.

Thanks for that date information, I will be restoring some parts of it, the seed box lid is rotted and dates help me get info on olde colours etc from manufacturers sources.

The title should have been "a barn full of treasure"
