Just received a letter dated August 2 announcing the immediate closing of Jackson New Holland, Inc. in Jackson, TN. Just bought my 2001 TC29D there a couple of months ago. Been buying parts for my old '51 8N and my Woods mower. The letter said the "continued decline in the general economy has made it impossible for us to continue in business." There are a couple of other dealers closer, but these were the friendliest and most helpful bunch of guys, from the General Manager to the Parts Manager and his staff to the Head Mechanic. It's a **** shame...

You are right, JK. I personally think that a lot of smaller dealers rely on their compact tractor business to fill in the gaps of day-to-day operation between selling larger tractors and equipment. In the last couple of years, their compact sales have slumped due to changes in models from the CNH and the economy in general. Whether that is correct or not, it also seems that those dealers who have been successful are the ones who have added other lines to their businesses (like Mahindra) or have always been dual line dealers like Messicks. Not many dealers have the size and depth of products that are needed to get through these lean times. Maybe some of their staff will find jobs at the other dealers and improve their customer service. You can always hope. It's got to be disconcerting to buy and then feel abandoned by your supporting dealer whether it's their fault or not.

Bad sign of the times for sure there for 20 years then gone!!! It's not just in Tenn. It's everywhere

I would also think the current agricultural problems have hit the top end sales as well. If you can't harvest a crop due to the drought, what's the point of buying/replacing/repairing equipment that sits idle.
I'd be curious to hear from Neil at Messick's where his top end sales are today.

I have a friend that sells mowers for commercial use. He advises the weather is hurting people that use the mowers and hurting him in sales. He advises one does not need an expensive mower to use as “Garage Decoration” when your livelihood depends on it being used daily.

His feelings are that between the economy and weather problems a lot of small businesses that cater to lawn care and agriculture will not survive.

Definitely a shame, but not too surprising.
CNH never seemed to have a good grasp of the compact tractor market...at least not like Deere and Kubota.
As far as CNH in general, they seem to be doing quite well in the agricultural market...especially overseas.

Larry, one of the local dealers takes consignment sales for a percentage of the selling price. I figure that covers both sides of the spectrum. You can sell people equipment and then help them sell it when/if their business can't afford it. It reminds me of the big supermarket stores with pharmacies. They'll sell you food when you are well and medicine if their food makes you sick. What a deal!;)

That is a bummer. I saw my first 8n boomer there. I have stopped there to look and buy parts many times. As of recent I have been dealing with TRI County Equipment in Newburn, TN. I havent gotten a good feel for them yet. The last time I went to TRI County I did have to help the parts guy look up a part.

There is a dealer in Henderson and Willie German at Brownville and Summerville.

I'm not sure what you mean by top end..? By and large, our local business is doing fairly well. Our rain held up much better than most of the country.. If our yields are okay our farmers may have a good year since corn is $9/bu. I really feel for other dealers and farmers, its really ugly in some places.
