Bulldog hitch coupler

Have and old 12' stock trailer with old style 2"Bulldog sliding collar hitch. Just noticed today the pin in front that the jaws swivel open on are worn bad. The pin is not even connected into the top half. Is there anyway to drill the pin out from the bottom and weld in a new pin? It will be major work to grind, burn off the hitch from trailer and weld a new one on.

Can you drill it out and replace with a grade 8 bolt?

Not me. I have enough to worry about while towing without using a worn out hitch that has been mended. "Shore" as in the ship might hit the sand if one relies on bad couplers.:fan:

I have no idea how old or how much use / abuse your hitch has seen but I have used the heck out of bulldog hitches for many years and have never seen the type of wear you are describing. I am not doubting what you are saying I am just thinking if that pin is worn then the whole hitch is probably worn out too. They are not expensive and are not super hard to replace. Yes there is some torching and grinding but I have replaced a few hitches (going from the lever type to bulldog) over the years and I don’t remember it being that big of a deal. Certainly easier then cleaning up the mess after the trailer broke off going down the highway.
