I would like to build a wagon (say 4' x8') to pull behind my CUT. I have looked around for a source for the axles, and in particular the front which pivots and steers which would be drawn by the tractor. I can weld up the platform etc, but want to find the running gear. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Larry

Larry, Not sure why you need such a "small" wagon (4X8). I had a 5X10 heavey duty (3500 lb GVR with 2" ball) trailer built for my Ford Explorer about 10 or so years ago. I also find it is perfect for hooking up behind the Farmall 230 to tow stuff around. Trailers are infinitly easier to back up and you don't have to worry about having 4 tires going in different directions. As a bonus, you can actually hook it behind your car to move stuff on the road. Just a thought Professor...Good luck on your decision/design. BobG in VA

I am working on building a wagon like you describe.
I found the front axle from a old golf cart for the front
and an axle from a boat trailer for the rear. I am going to use
golf cart tires and wheels. I also got a lift gate motor and pump
for $10.00 and a cylinder for another $5.00 so I plan to make it
a dump. Total cost should be under $100.00.
Hope to start assemllly soon and will post pictures when I do.

If I were looking for supplies to build one I would check out old junkyards and scrap metal yards, because I am cheap. you should be able to find some old axles, metal etc. in those types of places for alot less than new materials. There is an interesting looking homemade one built here that may give you some ideas. 4 wheel trailer and herewagon being built <--click on shop projects.

I found gear in that size at HarborFreight.com. Under $200 brand new delivered.

No, kidding, but I know what you mean. There's a ton of things I would like to build, but I get stifled because I can't find basic things like pulleys, gears, shafts, and axles. McMaster-Carr is one of the best I have found, but lacking in variety. Sadly , my town doesn't have a junkyard.

Saw a trailer once that used the rear axle out of something like a Geo, or one of the other small front wheel drive cars.
