Thinking about building a 2000 sf (40x50) green house for year round use. Any one here have some tips and experience doing this? Best place to order polycarbonate panels and other special needs?

No, but I have had the same idea. I am curious what feedback you get. Obviously this is location dependent, but I would love to have a year round greenhouse.

Look at solar thermal greenhouses. They will allow you to maintain heat in the winter. I think green house supply was the cheapest for the panels, there are also places that sell used panels too.

Regular 4 year greenhouse plastic is far cheaper. (I've got one of each).
The most recent one we built (last fall) is 20x36, and I used laminated white oak for the arches. We put waist high raised beds in it ( to eliminate so much bending over.....we're not young anymore), and this summer, poured a concrete floor in it with PEX tubing I'll be running solar hot water thru this winter.

one good place to get supplies is FARMTEK search for them you will see they are on line catalog place I bought PEX and Radiant insulation from them for good price. Lots of greenhouse stuff even kits and the poly carb in many styles layers thicknesses etc.

Thanks for the lead I just checked out the Farmtek site.
I am considering using passive thermal underground tubes in a closed loop to help with controlling the temperature. In my locale the average temperature should be about 51 degrees F, and I would like to see an average temperature of 65F. Any one have experience with these earth tubes?

I built a solar air system for my house, we dont use it now but I will use it in the greenhouse to do the same thing.

When I was in Arch. school I remember studying this in detail one year and felt that it would be better utilized in a green house than a residential structure. My current location is a much better place to utilize these earth tubes. I live in the mountains of New Mexico with low humidity most of the year which means temperature swings of about 45 degrees between day and night. I am thinking that in winter to run the system at night to help warm the air and run it during the summer in the day time to help cool. June is our hottest month in most cases but with low humidity I can use evaporative cooling to keep the temperatures down. Our rain season is typically after July 4th and is cool enough to get by with simple ventilation. I will have the option of making the earth tubes use open loop and closed loop depending on the best scenario at the time. Will also have a gas unit heater for the coldest weather when necessary.

In the winter I am zone 5 I was getting temps of 70-80 degrees from my passive solar air systems, I did add a blower fan to help circulate the air, but it worked.

I would have gotten better temps incorporating the panels into the house but we were testing it out before I drilled a hole in the wall. THe smell of the insulation bothered my wife so no "free" heat
But at least they are built for the greenhouse.
