Building a gravel pit of your own..

Anybody have there own gravel pit on there property ?? I started one a few years back to fill in where stumps were pulled and for other projects.. It's about 30' long by 8' wide right now and goes from 0' to 5' deep at the back side..built into a hillside

I'm thinking I will need to put a fence around the deep end before long just in case someone walks out of the woods into it,,

You need a little fence or a safety ribbon for a pit around it. Also dont make it any bigger than you can reclaim incase EPA gets you for not having a surface mining permit. A friend had a nice gravel pit here and let the county get gravel for a road rebuild. They didnt know how to manage a pit and just made a mess now my friend got left with a big reclamation project. If Its a private pit just keep it neat and your runn off clean and there wont be any problems.

If you are doing this commercially I hope you have a lot of money for all the permits, OSHA inspections, mine safety inspections, etc. plus neighbor approval for trucks on the roads and hours of operation, the list is long. Unless you think u can sell a lot of gravel I doubt if it would be worth it. Just my opinion though.
