bucket grapple

Ok Folks,
I have been reading a lot of threads and my head is about to burst..

during all the reading, 3RRL's post about the grapple for his wife was one of the big time list of helpful reads...

What is the best way to use a bucket grapple and not have another spool valve.
BUT I also want the best use.

And I want to be able to use it when it is cold out...
Where I live I worry about trees falling due to ice and this would be a very good time to use the grapple..

So tell me what do yall think about each of the ways to control the grapple?
Electro/Hydro or another valve?

RT, you basically have three choices: A new spool valve, a electric-over-hydraulic solenoid operated 3rd function spool valve, or a diverter valve.

There might be another option and that is to make a mechanical articulating bucket grapple.
I haven't given it much thought, but I know Eddie at one time was considering something like that if I remember right.
The grapple would have linkage that allows the grapple to close as you curl the bucket. I don't know how practical it would be? Having an true third function solenoid valve control our grapples offers a lot of flexibility. The mechanical articulating grapple would have it's limitations due to bucket curl position, but it could be done.
Here is an example on my backhoe bucket which I made.

I have it adjusted so I never take it off.
It doesn't get in the way of digging and I can grab stuff with the backhoe much like I do with the grapples on the bucket. You'd have to determine where the "close" would occur for maximum flexibility in use.
Anyway, it might be of interest as an alternative to another valve?
