I have a JD 4100 CUT with a 410 FEL. I noticed the bucket will lower on its own, with or without a load in it. It also seems to roll forword on its own.If I am bush hogging with the tractor I notice the FEL will gradually drop while I am cutting. If I leave the bucket up and the tractor idling, it will do the same thing. Is this normal ? If not, any ideas why it may be doing this? Tractor is in excellent shape with 900 hrs on it.Thanks in advance for any help.

The FEL hyd. system doesn't have any feedback that lets the SCV know that the bucket or loader arms have moved. So it cannot re-position itself.
There usually is a certain amount of bypass leakage and it could be in the SCV or in the rams. There are some guidelines to what is acceptable service wise, but if it gets to be too annoying to you, then you will probably want to chase down where this leakage is and decide if repairing it is worth the expense.

my kubota la402 loader bucket curl will drift down on its own. has since around 400hrs. i have to remember to curl it back tight about every 5-15 minutes. with a heavy load in it it gets worse. doesn't bother me too much yet, but agree with beenthere, its normal for some leak down, but if it gets bad enough to get in the way of your work, time to get it repaired.

I have a JD 750 with a JD67 loader doing the same thing. It is seams that the cylinders are leaking a bit and causes the bucket to drop. I have not found any information on rebuilding the cylinders so if anyone has info on the 67 loader, I'm listening.

As said before it could be the cylinders or the valve that is leaking. If it is leaking much I would see about getting repaired.

On the JD part web-site there is a cylinder repair kit for the JD 67 loader. On the 410 loader there are parts. I did not look, but there may be new o-rings you can purchase for the valve.

Unless you have an external leak, the FEL drifting down is the directional valve spool leaking. All spool valves leak, how much is determined by several different factors.

The Curl cylinder allowing the bucket to dump could be either the cylinder seals or the valve.

On most spool valves, replacing the O-rings only stops oil from leaking out onto the ground, It will not change how fast the loader drifts down.
