Brushes with Celebrities anyone?

I just heard that newly engaged Kid Rock (musician) and Pamela Anderson /w3tcompact/icons/love.gif purchased a lot on the St. Clair River in Algonac, Michigan. They will build a house (mansion) on this highly travelled River. This is just down the road from my brother's house.

I can see this area becoming a really hot fishing spot with more binoculars than fishing poles.

On one hand I believe they are no better than anybody else but a chance meeting with somebody famous sticks in a person's mind more than meeting a noncelebrity.

When I was in college (just a few years ago!), a bunch of students in my Sociology class were doing a survey on travel patterns in airports. I, and three others, were assigned to a small regional airport in Rock County (very rural), Wisconsin from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Basically, all we had to do was try to get passengers walking through the airport to stop and answer the questions that had been developed for the survey.

Being a regional airport, let's just say that we weren't having to sharpen our pencils real often on our shift! /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif Anyway, around 1:00 a.m. I'm sitting there when I notice one of those private, two engine corporate type planes taxi up in front of the terminal. I see a bunch of people getting off and walking toward the terminal. I warned my fellow researchers that we had some hot ones on the way in.

As we were getting ready to accost them with our questions, I noticed one of the men looked very familiar. Holy cow, it was Bill Cosby /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif with about six other people. One of the other researchers asked if we should survey them. I replied that they put their pants on the same way we did /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif, so why not?

I walked up and excused myself to Mr. Cosby and explained what we were doing. He agreed to answer our questions!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif So, we divided the group up and spent about 10 minutes completing the survey. They were all very nice about it.

I asked him what he was doing coming in to Rock County, Wisconsin. He said that he had a gig (ah, that means he was performing) at the Playboy Club in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and that flying into here was better than driving all the way from Chicago. It wasn't really, but I didn't tell him that! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

We all thanked them for their time, and after he finished giving all of us his autograph, he said to me that he now had a question for me. Wow, Bill Cosby going to ask me a question!? /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif I said that I'd be happy to answer any question that he had. So he says, "...how long is it going to take for the indians to attack my limo?" I just stood there trying to figure out a witty response as he walked off laughing! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I also used to work at an airport and met many celebrities. Most were very nice. Willy Nellson was the nicest. Gave us a tour of his bus and small jet, then he took pictures of us with his bus! Not him, his bus! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Not sure how fine the line is between celebrities and politicians but a good friend of mine took me to a charity skeet shoot in Nashville a couple years back, hosted by U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson. Talk about a nightmare for the secret service......EVERYONE there had a gun!!

i my self won't waste my time on a bunch of self centered over inflated egos. my girl is the gm for a security and crowd control co. that deals with celebs. all the time. the owner of the co. is a personal bodyguard for different singers and we have the oportunity to go to concerts and functions, but i always pass on it...also live in the north west corner of ct. where a lot of famous people own homes and are out and about in town. i would rather deal with the comon working class man who knows a hard days work. ....tgello

I had a surprise brush with a celebrity once while in California. Went to the coast to catch a ferry to Catalina Island, got there early naturally, and wanted to find someplace to get a coffee. Went to the Queen (something) (former cruise ship) because a sign outside mentioned coffee bar inside. They said the restaurant was closed due to filming of a TV show. Well we talked our way on board for a quick coffee, and then as we were leaving we met up with Angela Landsbury. They were filming an episode of Murder She Wrote while we were enjoying coffee. She was a very nice lady, we sat and talked for a long time.

I met Roy and Dale at their museum in Victorvill Ca. in the 80's. Two of the nicest people you could ever meet. Dale held my daughter and was going crazy over her. Thats my Father in-law and me with the man that needs no introduction.

Many years ago, back in my martial arts days, I got the privledge of going on the Mike Douglas show to perform. (C'mon, I know most of you remember that show!)./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif They film two shows a day so I got to sit in the green room with a number of famous (fomerly famous?) folks. Zsa Zsa Gabor was the strangest...definitely a space cadet. Bob Eubanks was on (remember The Newlywed Game?) and he sent the entire time primping in front of the mirror. What an ego he had. The one person I didn't meet? Mike Douglas...he was on vacation. The guest host was none other than Mark Spitz. It was right after he won those seven olympic gold medals in swimming. Hmmm...I guess his 15 minutes, as well as mine, have long since passed.
