March 2012 new L45--John Deere 650 sold/Kubota M59 TLB/sold bx24 and L3830
I just recently purchased a Woods BB72 for my Kubota L3830. the dealer attached it to my tractor so I just figured it would be correct. The problem is when I bush hog (I know bush hog is a brand but just used to using that term for cutting). the rear wheel will spin some times but most of the time it will dig a trench. My father inlaw who had John deere tractors for years came up and we adjusted the top link but still no luck. It seems to swing freely when raised but Iwill try to grease it so maby that will help. The manual says the cutter should be level at transport and to adjust the top link accordingly. I thought when raised the rear would be higher. I am new to this any help appreaciated

I always make sure that my pto shaft isn't rubbing the front deck but I don't know that I always transport level. depending on how rough the terrain is is how it is transported. IE: if it's rough I'll lengthen my chain top-link so it floats and contours better so it may not transport at level. If it is flat ground, th etop-link is a little shorter and it raises it level- to tail wheel higher. As far as cutting a trench; do you mean the wheel is cutting a trench in the ground or that the wheel is cutting a trench in the grass. If it is just leaving a track in the grass this is common, if it is actually cutting into the dirt that is a different story. Please clarify.

Sounds like wet ground to me too...

I have the problem with my rear wheel digging up the pasture when I change directions (forward to reverse and visa versa). If this is what you are experiencing, I cant see any any solution. Also my Woods dealer taught me not to assume anything is setup correctly. P.S. make sure you loosen your slip clutch when its new and with the first use each year after. Good luck.

Mine is level at transport height. A pic shows the rotary cutter (brush hog) Deere variety 5'

At mowing height, the chains shown are loose (I replaced the steel straps with chains and find it works better with my quick hitch (Deere I-Match).

Thanks for the responses. The wheel is actually digging into the dirt And not just on turns but straight forward as well. This may sound like a stupid question but when the manual talks about transport are they referring to the raised position or the ground position. the ground is dry. Beenthere thanks for the picture.

Transport is with the mower raised. John

If the wheel is digging while mowing straight ahead, the wheel is adjusted to be to low. Try adjusting the rear wheel while the mower deck is at cutting height until the rear wheel is off the ground, then drop it a bit until it takes a bit of the tension off the top link.

Can you come up with a pic to show the wheel while it is digging in the ground while you are moving straight forward? Maybe something will show up if we can see that.
