I just stepped outside after hearing the rain on the roof all evening. My poor 'bota looks forlorn sitting in the driveway amidst the mud and bare ground. Despite all my recent comments about global warming it supposed to SNOW, not rain in January!!!

Global Warming ?? A very contriversial topic as regards cause/effect with a split scientific community and definet political overtones.
It has been said the entire solar system is warming up.
Me, I like would like to see an unpoluted environment but think there are many factors far beyond our control invoved with the present "Warming Trend"

While the illogical linking of apparent causes to perceived effects is indeed one of my "pet peeves"; as Judge Wapner would say, "I've heard enough, I'm ready to make my decision" on a linkage between global warming and man's activities. As far as a "split scientific community" is concerned, I'd point out that the scientific community is also split on evolution, string/M-theory, and the big bang.
Climatology is complex to say the least, but it is my belief that very little honest doubt remains that man and his activities are having significant "negative" impacts on the environment. Where politics enters the picture tends to be on the side of denial of the obvious, for selfish, short-sighted reasons. Your temperature may vary.

Often the contesting voices in the scientific community to the argument that global warming is largely man made are funded by special interest groups such as the oil industry and can therefore hardly be considered impartial or disappasionate on the subject. It's pretty much accepted science now except by those who don't want to face the fact that we need to mend our ways. Lovelock, whose credentials are impeccable, has simply gone further and said that it's already too late to reverse the damage which will be very far reaching and we need to prepare for the consequences of our actions. No doubt the next couple of decades will prove whether he's right or wrong.
On those factors "far beyond our control" that you attest are responsible for global warming, would you care to share them?

I'll just be glad if they can get tomorrows forcast right and less worried about the 1000 year forcast.

They've been pretty accurate in their forecasts here although I wish they hadn't been. We've had 30 consecutive days of rain, the ground is completely waterlogged and I've roads to cut, two building sites to clear and logs to skid and mill. I can't get a **** thing done until we get at least a few dry days. On the other hand, it is unbelievably mild, spring like even.
I need a profession that isn't so weather dependent. Like bank robber.

Many people seem to beleive sunspot activety has an effect on our weather. Think last year sunspot activety was higher than normal. Our sun is just a little guy. What could all the big guys a little farther away do?
A large piece of the antartic ice shelf broke free a few years ago. Turns out there was an active volcano underneath it!
Having spent many nights working for Bread and Water I did notice what seemed to be a correlation between the northern lights and ensuing weather changes. No proper data available. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
