I have a 2000 B2910 and I have broken both right and left front axles. I use my tractor for installing lawns. I pull a tiller, and a pulverizer mainly. I was bushhoging the last time it broke. Has anyone else had this problem?

What do you mean..."you broke...?" Do you mean the half shafts that drive the front wheels...the castings (is it a casting or stamped metal on the Kubotas?) that carry the axles?

I suspect you're using MFWD where you shouldn't be...leading to axle wind up. The MFWD is a great assist, but shouldn't be used all the time unless conditions require it (hilly areas, for example). But, if that's the case, you've got to expect more wear and tear.

Also, did you change the tires on the machine? You might not have the correct ratio between front and rear rolling circumferences.

Your post reads as if you're doing commercial work. Are you the only one operating this tractor?

Again, because you're putting the hours on the machine, you've got to expect more wear and tear.

What do you mean "...the last time it broke..."??? That sounds like the front axle has broken before. Is that correct??? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I know of situations where the front propellar shaft has broken due to lots of 4x4 usage in very tight places.

Can you supply a photo to help us?

Is this machine still under warranty?

Hi,

I've got a 2000 B2910 as well that I use for personal use on a small piece of property. I only have 80 hours on it. I don't believe I've heard anyone else on this board mention a problem with the front axles on the B2910/B2710/B7800.

How many hours are on your tractor? Could you be a bit more specific about the actual failure? Did the axles themselves fail, or the casting around the axles? Or was it the front drive gears?

Do you have a front-end loader on the tractor or suitcase weights?

Yes both front axles have sheared off. The left side about a year ago. and the right went yesterday. They both sheared off even with the hub,The housings never were hurt . I have the original tires on it.It has 600 hours on it. The first time it happened It was still under waranty, and Kubota took care of it. The waranty has expired now by three months. I had a B20 for 5 years doing the same kind of work and never had any problems, and put 2500 hours on it

This sounds REAL fishy. Have you contacted the nearest Kubota Rep? This is really odd. Those parts are not supposed to break. Unless run over by a train.

Maybe Steve Carver at Carver Equipment can help?

Just out of curiousity...do you have weight on the front end?

Perhaps the front end is bouncing more than it should if the front is too light?

I think all of my rear mount implement manuals state that a certain percentage of weight must be on the front wheels for safe operation. I always thought that was for tipping/roll over considerations, but it's probably also to minimize stresses on the front end from bouncing.

Yes , the service manager at my dealer contacted our field rep. He wanted pictures. He said the same thing , axles are not susposed to break. I dont know if they will take of it or not. The parts were susposed to be in today, but they didnt come in. The axle shaft ,seal and the gasket cost around $150.00 which is not bad at all,but I hate to have to replace them every year.

I just have a FEL,which empty when they broke. I am usually working on pretty level and smooth ground. I have never noticed the front end bouncing up and down when using it.

Unless the tires are incorrect in size and causing the front ratio to be off, I got to think that the axles were defective from the get go....Maybe it was dropped in shipping...let us know what the verdict is....best of luck

Well...that shoots that theory.

Keep us updated, you probably have more hours on your B2910 than most of us here. By my calculations, I shouldn't hit 600 hours for another 17 years. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Good Luck...keep us posted.

I use this tractor about every day,and do put alot hours on it. This is the only problem I have had with it. When it comes to compact tractors nothing beats a Kubota. Thanks for the input. I will keep you posted

My parts came in today, and they got me going by noon. The service manager got Kubota to cover everything. You can't beat that for service. It means alot to me ,the next tractor I buy will no doubt come from Tri-County just for the service department alone.

Can't beat a good dealer that will go to bat for you after a sale. It is good to hear that Kubota stood behind the tractor even though it was out of warranty and used commercially. Don't see that very often.
