My M 6800 has the exhaust pipe that exists through the hood. As we use this in the woods a lot, we often catch the pipe on low hanging limbs and vines and bend it back. I have even bent the hood a little where it comes out. I usually just push it back in place. Today i noticed the pipe from the muffler to the vertical exhaust (where it has been bending) has two cracks and perforations. This is under the hood. So i am sure I am getting some exhaust gas leaking under the hood. It has probably been this way for a while, and I see no damage or evidence of a problem. When it is running, I still feel good exhaust pressure coming out the regular pipe.
My question is this really a problem? Will it hurt the engine compartment? I need to have it repaired, and I guess any muffler shop could do this, but it would take some welding, as the pipe is welded to the muffler. Is there a cheap quick fix? Is there any heat resistant tape that will hold up to wrap around the perforations? I hate to put much money into new pipes, as I am sure I will bend it again. The problem is the design places the exhaust in a very vulnerable position, as it is the first thing to catch a low hanging limb.
