It's amazing how many threads on here seem to start out by saying "the tractor was working fine, then shut her off and when I came back to start her up..... click...nothing". Well, that's what happened today. Turned out to be a simple fix though. Opened the hood and first thing I checked were the battery connections. Found the negative side to be broken at the battery post. It amazes me how a piece of metal with no obvious corrosion and which hasn't been tightened or touched in months can just decide to break. I've seen this on cars as well with these newer "cheaper" connectors. Found it easier to replace the whole 12" cable rather than resplice a new end. The new cable is also molded right into a stronger connector anyway. Now there's no weak point to break! Sorry about the old wrong dates on the pics.

Your cable looks the same as the one on my new 3316.

When my tractor was suppose to have been delivered to my dealer they had a mix up and my new tractor went to Arkansas and they shipped a 'demo' to my dealer. I think it had 26 hours on it and it looked too rough for me to even consider; although I had made my mind up before seeing it I was waiting on the 'new' tractor.

Anyway, the battery was corroded all over the top including the angle bracket at the top front that clamps the battery.

Yesterday, I removed the battery terminals and put the felt washers over the posts and then liberally sprayed the terminals with the red protector; also sprayed the angle clamp bar.

I think I will go back and remove the battery clamp bar and spray it down with the plastic cote stuff for needle nose, plier handles; just for some better protection.

Now after reading your post I think I will take a look at how to take some strain off of the cable at the crimp point of the connectors; thick heat shrink at point of manufacture would have worked, but a little late now. I may try some self vulcanizing electrical tape.

I've had to cleaned my battery every other year since I got it because of what you've seen on your battery cables so I just added it my maintenance list.

I also have wondered why that angle bracket that holds down the front of the battery continues to develop acid buildup like on the actual battery posts. Maybe the electrolyte seeps out from the battery caps, especially if the tractor is on some steeper grades? Also a reminder from something I noticed a few months after I bought my 3215. Those nuts that secure the angle bracket can come loose so I just put a dab of silicone on each and it seems to keep them snug.
