briggs carb repair question

Hey guys,
A guy i know gave me a 11 h.p. B+S Sears lawn tractor.The tractors shot but the motor is still good except for one thing.The bore in the carb body for the shaft for the throttle is so worn(sucking air)that it wont run right.
Has anybody ever tried boring this part out and putting bushings in there to restore the original fit?
I already scapped the tractor,but if i can get this motor running right i'm going to use it on a generator.
I have a small south bend metal lathe so i can make bushings about any size i want.I just wanted to know if anybody else has ever tried this and if it worked.I've seen this before on B+S engines so i know its pretty common.

I have not done it on a Briggs carb before but I have done it on automotive carbs. I don't see why it wouldn't work. You have the correct tools why not go for it. What's the worst that could happen? Damage a already shot carb.

If the shaft isn't worn down too much. you can put a bushing in after boring
out the body. Shaft wear is the biggest problem that I had. Rebush was simple machine work. Why not go for it? Be awful careful boring body.

You might be able to get a new carb. from Sears if you think the motor
is worth the bucks.

New bushings would likely work fine. One problem you might run across is getting the throttle plate off. Sometimes they peen the screw threads so they won't come out and have to be drilled out and the threads retappped in the shaft. Kohler used to sell bushing kits for their carbs, not sure about Briggs.
