I need to ID the carb so I can ensure proper adjustments.
It looks very similar to several different models and I want to make sure I get it right.
402707 type 1226 01
Who can tell me which carb this is?
Bonus points if you can also provide necessary adjustments.

Thanks much,

Mean Jean

Typing that model and type number into the Briggs parts list shows a down draft carb with a 3 screw fuel pump with a FIXED main jet. If you have a screw on the main then something was changed.

If it does not run without the choke being pulled out part way or surges, then you have to take top of carb and clean out the idle jet tube and the associated compensating passages.

Engine is a 16hp twin 2.
Thanks David.

Need to tell us whats wrong with it. It is a fixed main jet as said in previous post. Only adjustment should be on the idle adjustment and the idle speed setting. Main jet is replaceable too.

There Isn't anything wrong with it. I needed to figure out the kind of carb so I could properly adjust
It's 1 and 1 half turns from seated on both adjustable screws.

Have had 2 of these over the years on mowers with both 3 and 4 screw gas pump versions of the carb and since I am on the West Coast I get CARB versions of the engines with fixed jets, have never had to adjust one up just clean them up because of the wonderful gas they sell here plugs jets and passages up and corrodes the bowls and brass parts.

It's interesting you mention that David.
I pulled the carb apart for a thorough cleaning and noticed a build up of gunk in the jets etc.
Had a bit of a stutter until I made the adjustments as mentioned in the previous post.
Purrs like a kitten!

I make a habit of running seafoam in all machines.
It works so well I'm considering adding a teaspoon in my coffee in the mornings.

1 1/2 turns is a good starting place. with the machine running turn the idle mixture screw in until it starts to drop off, then back out aprox 1/4 turn. If you have a high speed adjustment screw you would then run the engine up to full throttle and do the same. That engine does show as a fixed main jet though. cleaning the carb is usually the fix with this ethanol fuel. Seafoam is good stuff too.
