I have a b7800 with a b2782 63" front mount snowblower. The impellor breaks a lot of shear bolts. I have checked it over frequently and I now think that a bigger blower may be the answer. My concern is can my b7800 handle a bigger front mount blower? :confused:

Why would a bigger blower resolve the issue? It seems to me there is something wrong with the unit you have or the skid shoes need adjustment to keep the stones out.

I'll try that Evil.

The more important questions leading to the answer are these;

Do you have a lot of rocks/cobbles/ that your blower encounters?

Is it possible that you have too weak a shear bolt in strength?

Do you know what the manufacturer(RAD) calls for in shear pin strength in thousands of pounds?

An easy fix for the blower would be to install a barrier that would allow snow to pass through and keep the rocks out.

What you need;

2 pieces of angle iron for the snow blower sides to anchor the screen and keep the housing square as well.

4 pieces of strap iron used to anchor and hold in place concrete reinforcement
mesh that allows the snow to pass through and keep the rocks out.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first 2 pieces of strap iron are attached to the angle iron that is bolted to the snow blower sides

The reinforcement mesh is hung on the bolts used to clamp the mesh in place with the other pieces of flat stock.

That way the snow get through and the rocks and cobbles cannot.

Be sure to use NYLOCK nuts to secure the bolts and eliminate any possibility of them vibrating off and disappearing.

The use of socket head cap screws-Allen bolts to secure the angle iron to the snow blowers side walls and the mesh to the flat stock will be will be easier as it is much less likely that you will have issues with wrenches slipping off and skinning knuckles and the usuall^&*(*&^&*() words.

I have the 63" front blower and have only broken two or maybe three shear pins in two winters. Those were caused by small branches blown off the trees rather than rocks. I did put a piece of steel pipe with a slot cut in it on the cutting edge to reduce the number of rocks ingested until I had a packed base of snow to work on. That helped quite a bit, along with setting the skid shoes down as far as they go. I have the skid shoes set back up one position now but have left the pipe on the cutting edge, it's working well like that.

Another thing to watch is not to over tighten the shear bolts. They break a lot easier when they are over tightened. The torque spec is pretty low on them.

Brandoro, what size rroto tiller do you have? That's my next purchase.

Where have you been buying your shear bolts? If you've been getting them from your local hardware store try getting some from the Kubota dealer. They should be able to tell you what is the correct bolt. Next fall you may want to survey where you'll be using the blower and try to remove anything that looks like it could break a shear bolt.

Something's not adding up here. I have broken lots of shear bolts on the auger but have never broken an impeller bolt. Either you improper impeller bolts or somethings out of wack. I can't imagine putting in any kind of screen which would not result in clogging.
