I got this tractor in 2015. Primarily i have used the FEL, but last fall I started using the PTO some for the brush hog and tilling.
It worked fine for a while. I think i have maybe 20 hours on the PTO, but now the PTO has no power. It cannot till anymore. The PTO engages and can turn the tiller, but it has no power. I had been running it for a couple hours at that point and also saw a small puff of smoke come out of the hydraulic fill tube.I have been reading and would guess that the PTO clutch may not have been adjusted correctly when I got it from the dealer (Deal sold his business so I cannot ask and new business doesn't do tractors).
Should I try the hydraulic adjustment for the PTO clutch first? Or with the presence of a bit of smoke indicating the clutch pack may have been getting hotter than it is supposed to should I verify that the clutch pack is still in working order/replace before trying the adjustment? I do not want to do more damage to this resulting in a higher repair cost. I wish to fix this myself, but don't want to do more work than needed. Anyone have some advice here?
Thanks,
Matt
