I just purchased this tractor, shortly after getting it (500 hours) the 3P started to not hold when I shut off the engine. It will also drop with the enging running when I use the FEL. I replaced the hydraulic filter and accordingly the fluid but that didn't help. There are also bubbles in the sight gauge when the tractor is running but the bubbles go away in very short order when the engine is off. I think the "hissing" sound from the hydraulics is louder also. I BELIEVE the hydraulic piston needs replaced but thought I would pass it by more experienced people. The previous owner said he rarely used the 3P. Thanks in advance.

Something in the 3pt system is leaking, be it the piston seals, or the valve spool.

The FEL will have nothing to do with the 3pt, except that no fluid will flow to the 3pt when the FEL lever is fully in use. . The fluid is just passing through the 3pt valve.

With all valves in neutral, the pump flow is passing through all hyd valves to tank.

Bubbles in the tank indicate a suction leak or cavitation..

JJ,
Thanks. I know the hydraulic pump has it's limitations so if the piston is leaking and I use the FEL then the 3P would starve for fluid. I have also thought if I have cavation or suction issues the air in the system could possibility cause the same issue but I would think that would also effect the FEL.
Have you known of the piston causing bubbles?
Thanks
Mark

Let's take the simplistic approach and see if that works. Tractor is 11 years old. PO said he didn't use the 3 pt much. 500 hrs to me isn't long enough to wear out seals on the 3pt hyd ram. Maybe the cylinder is suffering from lack of use and corresponding side effects.

What if you put something like a rotary mower on the 3 pt and cycle it up and down till your arm gets tired.

Possibly all you need to do is to exercise the inside of the cylinder and the seals. Nothing but a little time and diesel. Why not?

Texasmark,
Thanks for your reply.
I have been useing the 3 point a lot with the brush hog and box blade. I just have to be careful when I use the FEL that the box blade recovers to the up position before I move the tractor. Once I get to thinking about it I think the tractor is actually an 09 model. The only thing that makes sense to me is the piston seals. If it were the valves I don't think I would have bubbles, it it were a suction issue I believe the FEL would also show symptoms, and I can see how a worn seal for the piston could spray enough fluid at 2700 PSI to form bubbles.
But I will excerise the 3P this weekend a lot when I start to build another pond.
Once again thanks,
Mark

With the 3pt lever in neutral, the 3pt cyl is supposed to be blocked, and if things were perfect, the 3pt would stay up for a very long time.

You do know you have a transport knob/descent adjust under the seat for transport.

If you can't lock the 3t, then it is sucking air or the fluid is bypassing the piston seals.

Valve spool could be worn.
