Branson 2400
Hey guys, I recently bought my 2400 and trying to not only learn the tractor but repair everything the previous owner neglected, so I’m trying to learn how to use the quarter inching 3 point, honestly I feel like it’s a PITA to use but it may be operator error. I’m use to using position control. I found a rod that wasn’t attached to the upper lift arm and connects to the control lever, I attached the picture, it looks like it’s out of adjustment maybe? Do I need to make any adjustments? Also what is the purpose of this rod? Thanks for any education and input guys! IMG_4790.JPG

Thanks for replying, how do you like your BH? I’ve played around with the idea of getting one but can’t justify owning it unless I start doing work for other people, very expensive toy to just buy lol

Hey Bama ,
I got my backhoe because I have been developing 2.5 acres in Northern Ca at 4000 ft elevation and I have hundreds of pine and fir saplings and I have been digging stumps out , I will also be putting in septic tank , leach field and digging a lot of footage for water , electric etc , I’ve had it 2 years and it has already paid for itself I feel , and front bucket for plowing snow , moving dirt the list goes on and on if you don’t have the justification for one might not be for you , I think mine was around 5G .my next implement will defiantly be a grapple for all the brush work I am working on , enjoy your 2400 but remember at 24hp it has its limitations, be safe ,,it pays off to have good clean fluids and filters . Bama,
On my 2400H that adjusting rod looks a little different but suspect still serves the same purpose of providing position feedback. On mine the end of the rod is threaded and there is a nut on each side of the eyelet attached to the lift arms. The service manual says to raise the 3 point fully and then adjust this rod until you have approximately half inch of movement in the lift arms.

I will say that the position function does not work the best on mine and repeatability of positioning is poor. Have never experienced any jumping or jerking issues with this system though

For reference I think mine is a 2013 or 14 model.

What is the purpose of that rod? I’m trying to figure it out but it’s not making any sense.

That rod is what returns the lever to the middle and sets the max height.

Once you flip the lever to lower the 3 pt, it will hit that little spring on the rod and return the lever to center. Once you move the lever to lift the 3pt, when it reaches max height, that stop on the rod will return the lever to center.

Branson calls that part the feed back rod. Like ptsg states it provides the mechanical feed back from arm movement vs position command.

I reread the instructions on the adjustment of this rod and procedure is.
Lower arms fully
Then raise arms fully
Check free play movement of lift arms when fully raised. Spec is quarter inch to half inch.

This is adjusted via the feedback rod.

I am curious when and why they changed the rod design since service manual shows the spring like your picture but mine just has two nuts locking the feed back firmly to the eyelet in the lift arms.

Awesome, this is what I was looking for, I wanted to know how to adjust it, I guess when you lower the arms completely you tighten the other stop right against the stop?

I would suspect that is the correct way to adjust your linkage. My guess is just so the spring is snug against the eyelet.
