Brands to Avoid??

New Kids to the Big boy equipment world. Everybody seems to be in bed with everyone else. We are looking to buy a 35-40 size Mini Excavator and Smaller Compact Track Loader.

So far the iron that looks attractive to us would be:

CTL- JD 317G
MINI- Yanmar VIO Series.

Both of these are sold at a local JD dealer. Local Kubota Dealer is full of incompetent low-wage buffoons so I am not big on buying anymore Orange Iron from them. We are not sure of bobcat quality, and cat is local as well. We also have the "me too" dealers with Mustang, Sany, Wacker,Takeuchi ect.

Trying to avoid costly mistakes.

Any advice?

From what I have heard, you won't go wrong with the Yanmar.

Run down to Puyallup and see Jennings Equipment for Kubota. They are on River Road just off R 167. Their core business is large farmers and contractors. Talk to Andy in sales, tell him Ron Vietmeier sent you there. He knows his equipment and has operated all of it himself. Buying two large pieces he will treat you right. Goggle their web site.

I would say anything made by the Japanese, they take pride in their products. My favorite brand is Yanmar. Which ever brand you choose, make sure the dealer will work with you. You can have the "best" product in the world but if the dealer is no good. you will be on your own.

Stay away from anything JCB or TEREX dirt equipment.

Even though i would imagine there married to other companies power plants etc like other brands, anybody care to comment on the newer ASV track loaders ? I think there 65 hp stuff is powered by Kubota , and two of there bigger models are powered by Cummins . Just asking not trying to start a feud .....

My neighbor bought a REAL nice ASV skid steer,,

It was perfect in dirt,, but, if the machine was operated on gravel, the gravel would QUICKLY destroy the bogie wheels.

I believe the wheels were rubber rather than steel, the machine would quickly self destruct on gravel,,,

Even with that knowledge, another neighbor purchased the machine.
He only ran it on dirt, so it was great for him,,,
