Here is my new John Deere 970 R .....35 HP Kawi motor, 60 inch 7 Iron deck, top of the line isolated suspension seat, tweels, Cross port hydro, all of the options....my last John Deere zero turn ( M665) has over 1000 hrs on the clock and is 17 years old, although its still going strong I wanted a new one so I picked another top of the line JD.

I am most impressed by the comfort and ride quality. The best seat in combination with the Michelin Tweels prove to deliver an awesome ride, very comfortable. The quality in mowing is a given, nothing mows like a Deere!

Very very pleased with it.....

Looks like a very nice machine, and of course the perfect choice for those folks who recently won the lottery!!

What do you use it for that your other equipment doesn't do? I'm curious about "niche" uses beyond garden variety mowing but lesser needs than a tractor would be needed for? Do you have those needs, or just use it as a mower?

And congrats on the machine! New equipment is always nice ..... except for the depletion to one's bank account!

What the heck else would you use a lawn mower for besides mowing lawn ? I certainly would not refer to lawn mowing a Niche endeavor. I mow a very large area at my home , 8 plus acres... I have plenty of other equipment as well that serves in their own dedicated tasks. I didn't hit the lottery, nor did it come anywhere near depleting my bank account...A commercial grade lawn mower is nothing for me to buy...Jealously is a very Unattractive character trait. You may want to work on that.
Have a great day..

Cool "Tweels" Was not previously aware of them. Watched the video - very impressive.

I was curious if you also added attachments like a snowplow or bucket. Those do add-on tasks I would call "niche" since they are outside of the main focus of such a machine, which is mowing. Many Deere owners in the X5XX and up platforms seem to do that. Many advised me to choose a Deere X5XX platform for my mower because it added this capability-- which is likely beyond the engineering capability of the Husqvarna mower I eventually bought.

My comments obviously offended you since they provoked such a defensive response-- which is regretful as I did not intend to do that. Had no idea you have large acreage mowing needs. Didn't seem to read that in your first post?

Anyway, sorry to intrude. Enjoy your riding mower. I hope it gives you great service for a very long time!!

Nice mower and congrats!

Btw I don't think plowhog was trying to be offensive.

How does that Z do on hills? Up/down and side mowing? Curious because I've never tested one of them on steep hills. I would think it would be a beast.

I found it very insulting but that's neither here nor there....any fool knows that you can't add a bucket or other such attachments to a zero turn commercial grade lawn mower however I have seen custom built Snowplows on zero turns but they don't work very good....and then he referenced "winning the lottery" and depleting my bank account to purchase it...WTF is up with the nonsense...like I said , jealousy is a character fault that can very easily be seen in his post. A simple " Congrats" and maybe a Question or two about the machine itself would have been a normal response to New member attempting to share a new piece of iron to the forum members...

Thank you for the kind words. The machine is excellent on steep slopes. I mow a pond dyke that is 20 foot tall in a angle of approx 60 degrees , it's a very sporty slope and it not an issue at all for the 970R. I can go straight up and down it or cross slope mow it. The actual cutting of the machine is perfect. Golf course quality mowing. I would not attempt the dyke if I was on a garden type tractor for cross cutting, it would most certainly top over due the high center of gravity.....

I was at a JD dealer the other day and looked at that type of mower but was gun shy of the tweel. Keep us updated on any problems you may encounter with the tweel over the years. It looks like it acts as an air ride of sorts and has a lot of potential.

Did they change the HP ratings for some reason because I cannot see needing a 35 HP mower just spinning a 60" mower when a 25 HP motor does just fine?
