Brake Appear To Be On or Engaged on 1980 JD 2640 stick shift. I checked hydra fluid ok. Front wheels are free when I roll up the front end/fork.
Occurs forward and backwards but not all the time usually cold. Any answers or experience resolving issue. Thanks.

Open brake bleed screws on top of each side of rear axle housing and retest.

run it and see if it gets worse as the brakes heat up..im doing this rebuild on mine right now..search 5210 brakes...its probly the springs..axles hsg gotta come off.

There are no return springs on the 2640. The brake pedal stop screws may be out of adjustment.

If brakes got hot any time wear plates have a habit of warping needs replacement also check pedal adjustment I've seen screws to loosen and stick brakes on

Ihave seen brakepedal screws adjusted to tightly . Adj loose .....then remove play plus 1/3 turn more tighter and lock adj nut .
