Anyone have any comments on this combination? I have been looking at BushHog and Woods and neither company has a sub-frame available for the M series with a cab. I spoke with a rep from Bush-hog and evidently the 3 point backhoes from them are breaking the top-link mounting and have started on designing a sub-frame for the M. Bradco does have a sub-frame available. I was hoping to gather insight in regards to a backhoe, specifically Bradco from the TractorbyNet family. Thanks.

Regards,

Bryan

My Bradco has the reach and cylinder sizes that would be a 611 today. I think the M6040 would handle it - but a subframe would definitely be needed. I think a 509 could be a hazard to the M6040 without a subframe too. IMHO only the smallest hoes are adequately supported by 3 point hitch only.

OK, maybe I need to be a little more clear in order to gather potential 'new' information that has not already been shared or pointed out.

I am interested in a backhoe with a subframe attachment for my M6040 and was wondering if any of the members here had any insight or advice. Currently Bradco is the only manufacturer that I am aware of that has a sub-frame available for M6040.

'Rbargeron' after reading your post I realized I may not have been clear enough.

Thanks,

Bryan

I had a Bradco 511 hoe myself. Was on a different brand tractor.. The Bradco system, to include their subframe is almost bullet proof... Can't go wrong with this brand of hoe. Ask your dealer or call Bradco direct and see what they suggest for your 6040, and what will work best.

Ok, here is what I have come up with.

Used Bradco 509, less than 10 hours on it. They wanted 6k with the sub-frame that went with the New Holland it came off of. That sub-frame won't work with mine (no big surprise there). So they priced out a sub-frame for the tractor and the connecting kit for the back-hoe. The total price for the connecting or I should say mounting kit, is 2,295 plus 250 freight. That was a huge surprise. I expected the kit to be somewhere around 1k. Does this sound right? Now keep in mind this includes both the sub-frame for the M and the connection for the backhoe to keep it a quick connect or what ever that means. The sub-frame is supposed to be out of the way and in no hinders 3 point work. What do you think? I was ready to buy it, but the sub-frame kinda put a damper on things. I am not comfortable getting one w/out a sub-frame.

Regards,

Bryan

I'm not surprised the subframe costs that much - especially if that is an installed price. The subframe is 200-300 pounds of steel brackets and plates that connect to the chassis, rear axle and FEL frame - actually replaces a couple of FEL members. The hydraulic kit adds quick-connect fittings for mounting and operating the hoe. In my experience, the Bradco subframe is very well integrated to the tractor - giving decent ground clearance when the hoe is mounted, and positioning the hoe close to the tractor to improve balance. On my rig, the subframe is not in the way for 3 point hitch operations, but when mounting the backhoe the hitch arms and center link are best taken off. Hope this is pertinent.

I wonder how that closeness will work with the cab tractor?

That price did not include install, but he will throw it in. I have asked that the lines be flushed. I am just floored that the mounting kit is that much.

Thanks.

There have been several posts about fitting hoes to Grand L30 cab tractors - apparently Woods moves theirs away a bit for clearance. I obviously don't know what the Mxx40 fitment issues are. But if the hoe is further back, the front is lighter going uphill, and there's less downforce left at the FEL for back-dragging. It might be good to talk directly to Bradco about this so there are no surprises later - the M6040 is a pretty new model.

Spoke with Bradco, they did test it on a 6040, but not a cab tractor, a rops with a hard canopy. They say it should be fine according to engineering. However if I need more space I can get a 4" spacer kit.

I did find out that the dealer selling the back-hoe is charging full list for the sub-frame. Part of me says pay it, becuase used back-hoes in good shape don't come along often, and the other part of me says ask them to cut a break. I guess them cutting the break is installing, pick up and delivery included. Hmmmm. Lets see pick-up about 75, install figure about 450, so 525. And of course the ever sneaky 'shop supplies' fee, of oh lets say 25 bucks. So 550. I could look at it as if they are giving me a $550.00 discount. hmm...

Maybe you could just tell them you were not planning on spending that much and you might wait until spring. This time of year equipment sales tend to back way off and dealers are sometimes more motivated to chose cash flow over profit.

Or here's another whacko idea: Ask Bradco if they could hook you up with a customer for the New Holland subframe (is the NH frame included in your deal?)
