When I bought my tractor new... there was an older model of the same tractor I bought for sale on tractorhouse. It was about 6 years old, had over 900 hours and it was selling for the same exact price I paid for mine new. It's pretty crazy... you see 10-20 year old tractors that don't sell for much less than what new ones cost. Sounds like you did good on your sale.

) $5,200 in 1986 would be $9,391 in today's dollars.

$9,391-$3,651 = $5,740 / 21 years = $273 per year - I'd say you got your money's worth...
I'm considering upgrading my 5 year old machine. I figure I may loose ~$5K in the transaction on my $18K setup. That's about $7 per hour (680) on the machine. I told my wife, if someone stole it tomorrow, We've gotten $18,000 worth of work out of it in the 5 years.

It's this way with most tractors that are 4wd and have 3pt hitches.
Dad bought a Satoh Beaver back in the early 80's Paid around $3500 for it.
Sold it with a bunch of implements in late 90's early 00's and got $5800.
