yanmar YM186d
Hi all

Been offered a 5 foot box scraper in good condition for 」345, (about 」600 new)
Im getting a yanmar ym186d at the weekend (its within my budget) and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice of whether the scraper and yanmar combo would work ok.
Tractor is 650kg plus front weight, not sure on weight, with roll bar, plus me 100kg and is 18hp. the rear lift is 260kg (ish) and the box scraper will be about 150-200kg.

Any advice would be really good.

Thanks

You'll have a VERY small margin with the 5' scraper. My experience with my Mitsubishi 17hp was that with even a 4' box blade, I'd be looking at a lot of sky most of the time. ...just not enough weight to hold the front end down, and even with weights on the front, it would run out of power long before the load moved. I had a good number of attachments for that little guy, but in the end it mostly ended up pulling a finish mower.

My 2-pennies of advice, however, is only worth 1-penny. YMMV.

what attachment would you suggest for maintaining gravel track with potholes?

I use a simple remote operated K-Tec EZ Grade 700, 7' Box Blade that I can pull behind my Pick-up Truck and ATV.

I pull the 5' box blade (see link below) with a 17hp B1700 without any problems...this box blade is designed for this size tractor so it is not as heavy as models made for larger machines but it will do the exact same work as a bigger heavier blade...it just tales a little longer...

one caveat about box blades (and other grading blades)...having a hydraulic top link will greatly mellow the learning curve and allow you to make pitch adjustments without stopping and getting off the tractor all the time...

I have the CBX 60 model in K_ubota orange... Bush Hog(R): If it doesn't say BUSH HOG, it just won't cut it.

The issue here, however, seems to be on the 3-pt lift. If the lift capacity is 260kg it matters if that is at the link arm ends or at a distance out. If at the link arm ends then you'll have to calculate for a load that's further out (distance and weight). AND, are you going to have to travel around with the box blade lifted up? If you can drag it on the ground and not beat up the ground (change the rake of the blade- here's where the hydraulic top link is really handy!) then lifting isn't a big deal. But, box blades can readily stop a tractor (either run out of power or lose traction) given enough accumulated material (really easy if using rippers in harder soil).

Hello to the UK this Cool, Foggy, SoCal Morning,
Kind of what I think of London weather.

I use a 60" Box Blade behind my 28hp Mahindra Max28 Tractor, (2800 lb.), it works but it loads up and sometimes I need to raise it to lose some of the dirt or this 28HP Tractor will bogs down. Not knowing Metrics, and not going to look it up, if your tractor doesn't have the weight and HP you will be lifting a 60" Box Blade (if you can) and losing the load more often than you think; I learned the hard way.

From this Site, I was introduced to a "Land Plane Attachment" (LP), it has the high sides, two diagonal blades, and has no back which allows the dirt load to roll out the back helping to level the holes and lessening the load on the Tractor. I am still new to this tool, I have a lot to learn, but basically I leveled and squared up the LP to the Tractor on the barn floor, and to start I adjusted the blades to the bottom of the sides. My thinking is it will not dig in but if there is a high spot it would cut it down.

You drive back and forth a few times and after a while things start to level out. I am not sure but if I had more experience or a good teacher I could use the tool more effectively, I am learning the hard way.

So my suggestion, as a Novice, for a tool to level and "maintaining gravel track with potholes" is a Land Plane !

Here is a Video of Everything Attachment using a larger LP, hope you get the idea, you would need a smaller unit but I think this would put less strain on a smaller Tractor than a box blade.

p.s. They make the type that tow behind a vehicle, not sure which type works for you !
