Box Scraper BOX SCRAPER TO SPREAD CRUSHER ?

I AM MAKING A CRUSHER RUN DRIVEWAY AFTER STUMPS ARE REMOVED I AM THINKING OF GETTING A 6FT BEFCO BOXSCRAPER TO FINE GRADE PRIOR TO CRUSHER RUN BEING SPREAD

Hi Charles,

Let me be the first to welcome you to TBN. As you you've probably read, there are quite a few smart folks here that have a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.

To answer your question, yes a box scraper may work but there may be other attachments just as much appropriate depending on your situation.

If I could ask, what kind of dirt are you grading? And how long of a driveway. Do you plan to grade/spread the crusher run as well? Also, have you looked into gauge wheels?

Thanks for the reply I have 400 ft of driveway that will have crusher as well as 3000 sq ft that i hope will see a pole barn in the near future i also have another 400 ft that will need to be graded i will use much from the branches that i will be chipping for the other 400 ft of driveway i am having an excavator bring his dozer to rid me of my stumps and level I was thinking of getting the boxblade to fine grade and spread and level I will also use to maintain an level in future Whats your opinion befco 72 is about a grand I would rather buy once than get one @tsc

Boxblade should work just fine. Works best if you have tilt cylinder. Straight blade can also do it and little easier for fine grading but the boxblade lets you move/drag it easier.

In the northeast it is stone mixed with stone dust that packs Used under asphalt or in place of

In southern Oregon, we usually put down 8" or so of "pit run" which is either everything under about 6" diameter that comes out of a rock crusher, or rock dug out of some gravel pits which have rock particularly well suited for driveway base. Sometimes it is called "base rock".

4' to 6" of what is called 3/4 minus is then spread on top of the base. The 3/4 minus is everything that comes out of a crusher which will pass a 3/4" screen. This is the material which has a lot of fines in it and will pack down very nicely.

Don't kid yourself though. You are going to have dust in dry weather.

It's the weight of the boxblade for the task at hand. If asking $1000 for the Bef co it sounds as if it is a heavy duty boxblade which is great if your tractor can lift and operate with it having a full load. Which it should. You should ask if it is a heavy duty model (I am not familiar with Bef co) If it is not, I would think that it might be a little pricey.
