I'm getting settled in on the attachments for my soon to be purchased B7500 HST 4WD. I'm getting the LA302 loader with R4 tires (thanks to information gleaned from this website). My next question is about box scrapers. I would like to get one for finish type work in preparation for new lawn, landscaping, etc. One dealer I am working with has recommended a 60" Eagle box scraper for this tractor. I don't know anything about this brand and he did not have one available to look at. Two questions, 1) Can this tractor pull a 60" box scraper effectively? 2) Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about the Eagle brand equipment?

Thanks in advance for your good advice.

Forgot an additional question. Are filled tires a good idea with this setup?

Thanks.

I talked this issue over with my dealer before I got a 48" Woods box scraper. He thought the B7500 would handle a 54", but felt it would do better with the 48". In the end I went with the 48", and am pretty happy with it. There have been several times that I felt that a 60" would have been fine, but not when the beast is "engaged" in serious ripping.

I have the tires filled (with hydrogen hydroxide), and have always pulled the scraper with the FEL attached as a counter-balance. Just the same, I have run out of traction on more than one occasion. I think this would be worse, possibly a lot worse, with a bigger scraper.

I don't know anything about the Eagle brand. You can tell a lot from the weight though. My Woods is almost 500 lbs. A 60" ought to be 25% heavier.

Also look at the gauge of construction & cross-bracing. My Woods has gussets in the corners plus fore-aft braces, plus diagonal braces up to the top link. It is one heavy piece of gear, especially for a 48" box. I know that when I park it, I better be able to back up to it straight, 'cause I sure as heck am not going to be moving it by hand!

Masch- Sorry, I don't feel qualified to answer #1 but I bet some 7500 owner will /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif and I'm not familiar with Eagle Brand equipment. So why am I replying? I've done a fair amount of box blade research recently and just ordered one two days ago. I'm getting a Bush Hog BX-600, 60", 490 lbs. This was the heaviest blade with a fixed moldboard I could find and can get locally. Another heavy option (that I couldn't get my local vendor to research for me!) was the MonroeTufline TB160, 60", 483 lbs. In case you haven't guessed, I feel that your best move would be to get the heaviest blade that your tractor will handle and is at least as wide as your rear wheels. The weight should help the blade do it's work better/easier and is a good indicator of strength and durability. I hope to never buy another box blade and won't if this theory holds true.

As for the loaded tire question. Makes sense to me that more weight = more traction... would be important when doing ground engagement work. If you're also getting or considering an FEL at some point the loaded tires would be a good idea, IMO.

Hope this helps.

Masch, just be sure the box blade is at least as wide as the outside tread on your rear tires, preferably just a little wider. I tried a 60" box blade for a few hours on my B7100 and would have been happy with it and stayed with it, if it hadn't been a cheap one and I broke two of them, then bought a 48" Monroe Tufline (my rear tread was about 40"). When I traded up to a B2710 (54" rear tread) I had to trade up to a 60" box blade.

I have a comparably sized tractor (JD4100) and I have a Landpride 54" box. This is ideal for my tractor. The 48" is the same width as my rear wheels, when set in the wide position and as others have pointed out, it's best to have a box a little wider than your rear wheels. Makes life easier when you're trying to work next to a fence or something.
